But, this fact may all be changing. Persons may learn something about locating their "real" family by attending the meeting Of The McHenry County Genealogy Society at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Society's new location: Central high school, 45 W. Franklin Ave. Crystal Lake, in the teachers lounge. Gari-Sue Greene of Tracers Limited will be the featured speaker for the meeting. She is a genealogist from Round Lake, who specializes in the field of adoption. She got her start in this area of research over two years ago while searching her husband's birth parents, himself an adoptee. It i3f the belief of George Chappelle, and his wife, Gari- Sue Greene, that adoptees have the same rights as anyone else to trace their ancestry and to find their true identify. their work, Chap- rreene have had some mderful experiences *nd success in bringing birth! parents and their surrendered children together after years of separation. The Greene-Chappelles and their genealogical-adbptee work has been featured in a Chicago newspaper, on T.V. and most recently, Ms. Greene was in terviewed for an upcoming articlcftn a woman's magazine. The meeting will be open to all members and guests and in particular anyone who has an interest in tracing the ancestry of an adopted friend or loved one. "The Early Records of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church" of Johnsburg, Vol. I. 1852-1868 and Vol. II 1869-1882 are still available for purchase at the meetings. Mayoral proclamation cites speech - hearing services Over 20 million Americans - nearly 10 percent of All children and adults in the United States • have speech, hearing or language impairments which severely affect their abilities to . communicate. In an official proclamation declaring May as Better Hearing and Speech Month, Mayor Joseph Stanek commended the high level of speech-language pathology and audiology services available in the city of McHenry. "Communicative disorders, as prevaleht as they are, still remain little discussed han dicaps," said Elaine Bottari, president of the McHenry County Association of Com- municologists. "Tragically, many of these persons are suffering needlessly since most communication disorders can be helped by trained pro fessionals." Better Hearing and Speech Month is a national event each May. The national campaign to highlight speech, language and hearing disabilities and give recognition to the professionals working with the comm- municctively disabled coordinated by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the national scientific and professional society of more than 33,000 speech-language pathologists and audiologists concerned with the causes and effects of disturbances in human communication. jfeon eRojj&xti !Beauty <£c(iooC±, {Jne. 2350 E.
