The three-hour program will begin at 9 a.m. and consist of participants consuming various degrees of alcohol to increase their blood alcohol level. The Illinois State Police will supervise the participants as they drive an automobile through a serpentine course to determine the effects of alcohol at various levels. The seminar is sponsored by Northern Illinois Medical Center and is conducted primarily for the purpose of introducing new concepts in pre-hospital emergency health care to fire departments and rescue squad personnel. This year's seminar is focusing onjf the care and transportation of trauma patients. " Recent studies show that up to SO percent of motor vehicle accidents involve some degree of alcohol. Because of this, an attempt is being made to promote greater awareness of the adverse effects of drinking and driving. Northern Illinois Medical Center extends an invitation to the general public, especially anti-drunk driving groups such as SADD (Students Against Drunk Drivers) and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers).
