HAVE A SAFE & HAPPY s MEMORIAL DAY! trips to campgrounds It's that time of year again -- time to plan your annual vacation and weekend camping trips. So, how do you go about locating campgrounds in the areas you plan to visit? The Go Camping America Committee says it can be easy since there are thousands of conveniently located cam pgrounds throughout the United States from which to choose. There are more than 7,700 privately-owned and 5,000 public campgrounds in the United States. The Go-Camping America Committee suggests any of the following means of obtaining information on campgrounds: • Purchase or borrow one of the many comprehensive national campground directories available through bookstores and libraries. Some of the most popular are: "Trailer Life's 1984 RV Campground k Services Directory" ($12.96), "Rand McNally's 1984 Cam pground It Trailer Park Guide" ($12.95), "Wheelers RV Resort & Cam pground Guide" ($9.95) and "Woodall's Campground Directories" (Eastern edi tion, $7.96; Western edition, $7.95, North American edition, $12.30). • To order them by mail, send your re quest and a check for the amount plus postage and handling -- $1.75 for Trailer Life's and Rand McNally's, $1.50 for Wheelers and $1.25 for Woodall's Eastern and Western editions -- to Recreation Vehicle Industry Associa tion, P.O. Box 204, Dept. GC1, Chantilly, Va. 22021. Woodall's North American edition can be ordered by sending a check for $12.30, which includes postage and handling, to Woodall's North American Campground Directory, 500 Hyacinth Place, Highland Park, 111. 60035. • Contact state campground associa tions. For a list of these, send a stamped, self-addressed long envelope with your request to the National Cam pground Owners Association, 804 D Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002. • Contact state travd and tourism bureaus, located in state capitals. A list of state travel directors can be obtained by writing to the Travel Industry Association, 1899 L Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036. • When contacting city chambers of commerce for travel and tourism in formation, specifically request informa tion on camping in their areas. Most will have a list of local campgrounds readily available. • Contact individual parks or forests or other public lands for campgrounds within their boundaries and those near by. • The American Automobile Associa tion (AAA) will provide its members with free camping books as well as travel guides upon request. • RV and camping clubs provide their members with campground information as well as other information and tips on camping. For a free list of camping clubs, send a stamped, self-addressed long envelope to Dept. GC2, at RVIA's above address.
