EAST DUNDEE - The Three Worlds of Santa's Village theme park has opened for its 25th anniversary season. The landmark: Chicagoland park opened in 1959, gradually growing from a modest 15-acre kiddeland park to a full-fledged, 55- acre family theme park featuring a wide assortment of amusement rides and at tractions. One of the rides has become a landmark itself, according to Don Holliman, general manager of the park. "The Snowball is probably our most popular ride and is one of the originals," Holliman said. "In fact, we belive it to be one of only two such rides in the country." The other is the teacups at Disneyland in California. In addition to its 30 rides, the park features two live musical stage produc tions, exotic and farm animal petting zoo, the authentic North Pole Village hosled by Santa, two shaded picnic groves and a dozen food outlets offering more than 45 food and beverage items. However, according to park policy, peo ple have a choice whether to buy their food at the park or bring their own in. "We've had families come in carrying large coolers^ Webers, lounge chairs, the whole bit," said Holliman, "they really make a day of it." "We have a great picnic atmosphere with the large evergreens and mature oak trees throughout the entire park," added Phil Oestreich, president of the park. "There is plenty of benches to sit on and shade to rest under." In addition to the two large picnic areas, (Please turn to Page 115) VISIT ONE OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS* GREA T NA TURAL RESOURCES...
