Roach was safe on the play. Betancourt carries a hot bat The McHenry softball bats are hot these days, as the Lady Warriors have won their last five games. Probably one of the hottest hitters during that strectch has been Monique Betancourt. The junior infielder-outfielder has been on what baseball people call, "a tear." Betancourt only carried a .270 batting average into last week Tuesday's game. Her low batting average kept her at the bottom of the batting order. But since that time, Betancourt has hit safely 10-of-18 at bats for a .556 average, her overall batting average has risen to .406. ' Warrior coach Pat Wirtz has inserted her into the second batting position in his lineup the last couple of games. So far, Wirtz says he hasn't regretted it. "It seems whenever I switch somebody up to a higher . pqsirUon, it, jflopsn:t jw oft „ for Monique, it has worked," Wirtz said. "She is really making good contact. She is really going after it. She is really an aggressive batter and a pretty smart batter." Wirtz also likes Betancourt as a fielder. "Monique is a ver satile player. She can play the outfield, the infield and pit ches." Betancourt realizes, like the rest of the team, she got off to a slow start at the plate. »"I usually don't start out too good. I start out slow. I hit better at the end of the year. Now is the time we need it more," said Betan court. Monique is the daughter of Elias and Sandra Betancourt. northern iluhok »"st CADILLAC TRAP*-11* , 1979 CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE SILVER/BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR, 26,000 CERTIFIED MILES MUSI SEE!
