Additional activities and events have been included in the gala this year, and an expanded refreshment tent and beer garden are planned. The fun will begin Tuesday evening. July 3, with children's entertainment, square dancing and country western music. Magicians and clowns will perform for the throng, and two stages of enter­ tainment will keep everyone busy. As last year, there will be an arts and crafts display, an antique auto display and an antique airplane display. The Taste of Crystal Lake is set to start Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. with even more eateries than last year tempting those in attendance with their culinary delights. Hungry celebrants can eat and toast America'a Independence Day with piz­ za from the Rotary Club, Italian beef from Luke's, gyros from Little John's, eggrolls from Haznow's, steak from Raiders, bratwurst from Michaels, tacos from Ell Niagara, barbecue chicken from Lake Point restaurant, hamburgers by the Jaycees, Mick's corn on the cob, cold sandwiches from Our Back Porch, snacks from Pioneer Center, desserts by Tiffanys, sno cones from the Central High School Pom Pon Squad, ice cream from the Continental Little League, candy from Karen's Kan- dy, cotton candy from Terry's Sweets, popcorn from Auntie Betsy's, or funnel cake from Willys. On July 4, the YMCA Fun Run will start at 8 a.m., with a parade through the city planned to begin at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon there will be an anti­ que airplane fly-by and a death-defying air show, including Ultralites and parachutists. Finally, a fantastic fireworks finale -- said to be bigger than last year with ad­ ded highlights -- will cap off the gala that night by the Crystal Point Mall. The cost of the celebration is being underwritten by the sale of buttons, which everyone must have to buy refreshments. One of the highlights of the summer in McHenry County is the Crystal Lake Lion's Ciuh Fourth of July Gala.
