Bus tours provide easy, inexpensive vacations By Deborah CoUura If you're not planning on spending a lot of money on a vacation this summer Green Bay, Niagara Falls, tbe Grand Oie Opry, or the Wisconsin Dells are great places to consider for inexpensive fun. Bus tours can provide an easy vaca tion. They are usually pre-planned with many attractive sites, depending on where you want to go and how much you are willing to spend. The cost of hotel accommodations, some meads, tips, gratuities and transportation are usual ly taken care in the total cost of the package. There are plenty of bus tours to choose from. Here is a sample of bus tours that can make a pleasant vacation without spending more than you can af ford. There are several bus tours that leave directly from Crystal Lake. They can save money, have the protection of a group and have an experienced escort who knows the good places to see and the bad places to not waste your time on," Kirchberg added. There are also other types of bus tours that provide something a little out of the ordinary. This sample of tours can be purchased through Getaway Travel, 414 Virginia Street, Crystal Lake. Green Bay, Wis. is not far away. Families can pack up the car for a week and take off to Green Bay. There are many hotels to choose from as well as sites to see. The lodging rate chart for the month of May 1984 averages bet ween $20 to $30 a night for a single and $30 to $45 for double occupancy. There are many sites to visit such as Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, Rail America, Heritage Hill State Park, Bay Beach Amusement Park, and the Wildlife Santuary, and the Broadway House of Horror to name a few. There are tours of the surrounding areas. The tour of Door County takes a group on a full-day excursion to the Door County Peninsula, sites include Brussels, Namur, and a fish boil. The escorted tour cost is $85 per person not including cost of coach. The Green Bay area tour takes an escorted group through downtown, and along Fox- River. There are package deals for Southern Illinois including the sites of Shawnee National Forest, Springfield, the Amish Country, and Urbana, and the Western Illinois and Magical Spoon River Country packages. Rates are bas ed on double room and two night minimum stay with other restrictions. All packages include a Illinois lottery ticket. The annual events around the state of Illinois do not require much more than the enjoyment they provide. In June a day can be planned to attend the Fort de Chartres Rendezvous held at Fort de Chartres Historic Site, Prairie du Rocher with a celebration that includes period music, costumes, and a drum corps contest, first weekend; Illinois Special Olympics Summer Games, held at Illinois State University in Normal this event draws mentally retarded athletes across the state, June 15-17.
