American Division: Condors 2-1, Bluebirds 2-1, Ravens 2-1, Hawks 0-1, Orioles 0- 2. Bluebirds 9 Orioles 8: (May 18) The Bluebirds came up with a three-run sixth inning to win the game. Bret Derby's bases loaded double tied the contest, and Dan Evans singled in the winning run. Hie Orioles took the lead in the fifth inning with six runs. Mike Smith hit a triple for the winners, while Marc Hubbard and Dennis Hensley added doubles. John Olson hit a double for the Orioles. Dave Cable was the winning pitcher. Falcons 3 Cardinals 2: (May IS) Tim Mauer struckout 10 Cardinal batters and only allowed three hits, but lost the pitching duel to Sam Perez. Peres struckout seven and gave up only two hits. Kelly Roach, Peres and Brian Condon had hits for the Falcons, while Mike Wohlwend and Steve Aleckson had hits for the Cardinals. Roadrunners 9 Eagles 1: (May 13) Matt Murphy's three- run homer sparked the Roadrunners win. Shawn Colomer added two doubles for the winners, while Kelly Agnes added two hits. Steve Seiversin and Todd Doherty added two hits for the Eagles. Jack Watrous was the winning pit­ cher with eight strikeouts. Eagles 5 Owls 4: (May 16) The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win. Bo Klontz led the Eagles with two hits, while Bill Creutz and Mike Hetterman added triples for the Owls. Steve Sieverin was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and only four hits. Roadrunners 17 Falcons 7: (May 20) The Roadrunners only needed 10 hits to score its 17 runs. Matt Murphy led the winners with four hits and five ,rbik J«mie Shaver tad twfthfcs and two rbi's. Sam Peres had three hits for the Falcons, in­ cluding a double. Murphy was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts and only four .hits allowed. Condors 9 Bluebirds 2: (May 17) A five-run fourth inning blew the game open for the winners. Hie big hit for the Condors was a two-run triple by Jeff Lewis. Lewis was also the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts. Dan Evans led the Bluebirds with two hits. Roadrunners I Cardinals 9: (May 20) Winning pitcher Jim Siomon helped out his own cause with 10 strikeouts and giving up only two hits, but he also received some help from cat­ cher Jack Watrous. Watrous threw out two runners at- teiqpting to steal second base, and also hit a triple for the winners. Owls 3 Wonder Lake Angels 2: (May 20) After the Angels tied it up in the top of the sixth, the Owls came back with a run in thetoottom of the seventh to win. Mike Hetterman led the winners by scoring the winning run and throwin out two runners from the catcher's position. Brian Bromley threw a one-hitter and struckout seven in the win. McHenry Eagles 5 Eagles 4: (May 20) Tlie Eagles grabbed an early H lead after three innings and hung for the Win. Todd Doherty struckout 10 in a winning effort. Jim Sizemore had two hits for the Condors, while Jeff Lewis added a triple. McHenry Falcons 13 Wonder Lake Phillies 2: (May 20) KeOy Roach led a 16-hit Falcons at­ tack going four-for-four, with three doubles and three rbi's. Brian Condon had three hits and Len Green had two hits, while Jamie Keller added a double. Sam Perez was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and only giving up three hits. Bluebirds 19 Ravens 5: (May 20) Joe Beyer's bunt single in fourth inning sparked a five-ran inning for the winners. Dave Cable helped out with three runs scored on two hits and four stolen bases, while Mark Hubbard helped out the winners with two Mts, two runs and three stolen bases. Joe Kinnerk was the/Winning pitcher. BUI For- tino, Jose Tello and Ed Fair all hit doubles for the Ravens. McHenry minors Bluebirds 9 Falcons 5: (May 16) Bud Benson led the winners with three hits, including a double. Marc Hut added a homerun in the ll-hit attack. Zimmerman was the winning pitcher. Bluejays < Cardinals S: (May 15) The Bluejays scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the win. Alan Kraft, BenWinkleman, Jake Schlender and Casey Watrous all had two hits each for the dinners. Ryan Mlyniec was three-for-three for the Cardinals, while David Birkencamp added two hits. Erick Ekstrom was the winning pitcher in relief. Bluejays 8 Royals 3: (May 20) A five-run. JBrst inning pushed rf~tfce;>BlMja$i io the win. Alan Kraft and Jake Schlender had two hits each for the winners, while Schlender added two doubles and two rbi's. Fred Groh was three-for-three, in­ cluding a triple for the Royals. After scoring two runs in the first inning, Johnsburg's defense pulled off some run- saving defensive plays. The first big defensive play developed in the second inning. McHenry's Greta Larsen lined deep into right- field, only to get thrown out trying to stretch it but to a triple. The second big defensive play developed in the fifth inning. With the double steal on, Johnsburg shortstop Debbie Tvaroh threw to catcher Patty Butler to cut- down Monique Betancourt at the nlate. "We made some nice plays," said Johnsburg coach Bob Schmitt. Schmitt wasn't too happy his squad couldn't take advantage of some possible scoring situations. The biggest opportunity was in the third inning, with Skyhawks on second and third and one out. But Warriors pitcher Sara Prust worked put of the jam. "I'm happy with Sarah's pitching performance," Wirtz said. Prust struckout nine Skyhawks, while walking eight. Both runs given up by Prust were unearned. Kathy Butler was the losing pit­ cher. Johnsburg scored both runs in the first inning with one out. Chris May was walked by Prust, but Prust struckout Pam Butler. Kathy Butler followed with a single. May scored when Prust mis-handled a grounder by Roberta Kucharski. Prust continued to have problems, as two wild pitched scored Butler. McHenry scored its first run of the game in the third, all after two outs. Patty Johnson reached on an infield single and stole second. Betancourt then singled in Johson. The Lady Warriors added two more in the fourth. Cindy Gaines and Larsen led-off the inning with singles. Renee Mezzano, however, hit into a fielder's choice to force Larsen out at second. Prust knocked in Gaines from third ona ground ball, while Melissa Greve knocked in Mezzano with a single. The Warriors held onto its slim 3-2 lead until the sixth; adding two more runs. After one out, Mezzano was walked by Butler and Prust singled. Greve followed with a single, scoring Mezzano. Val Kilday then hit into a fielder's choice, with Prust thrown out at third. Johnson knocked in Greve with a single. The Warriors clinched the win with three more in the seventh inning. This time Andee Norton led-off with a walk and Gaines doubled to put runners at second and third with no outs. Larsen singled in Norton and Gaines scored on a wild pitch. Rockford East holds the best time in the nation in the 3,200 meters at 7:41. Friday, Rock­ ford East was timed at 7:43.1. McHenrv broke its school record time of 8:16. Facing class AA sectional talent for the first time brought out the best for Johnsburg. The Skyhawks broke five school records. Brian Siudak led the record breaking with a fifth in the shot put with a 50-8. "All in all, there is a great difference between class A and class AA competition," said Johnsburg coach Ben Beck. "We would have liked to score more points and send some athletes to the state meet." Other Johnsburg records were broken by Rich Dschida in the high hurdles (15.5), the 800 meter relay team (1:38.4), John Kirk in the 200 meter dash (23.5 and the mile relay team (3:32.0).
