1 PAGE 18 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MAY 25, 1984 Sports Peggy Franz takes top honors at Kiwanis meet CRYSTAL LAKE - Peggy Franz was awarded the all- around athlete for adult female (20-29) during the annual Crystal Lake Kiwanis track meet for people with special needs. Franz competed with 64 other McHenry County athletes last Saturday. Franz captured firsts in the 50- yard dash and the standing long jump. McHenry's Jim Chapman also had a successful day at the meet. He captured firsts in the male (20-29) softball throw, the 100-yard dash and took a second in the 50-yard dash. Janice Lossman was the only other first place finisher, taking the female (30 and over) softball throw. She also took a second in the frisbee toss. Other McHenry second place finishes included George Peabody in the male (40 and over) softball throw and Jan Garlick in the female (20-29) 50- yard dash, Debbie Smith in the female (20-29) frisbee toss. Third places went to Jan Garlick in the female (20-29) standing long jump and Robbie Pierce in the male (20-29) standing long jump. HiUer-Hamm tourney forms available The fourth annual Hiller and Hamm 12-inch Miller High Life softball tournament will be held June 15-17 at Knox Park in McHenry. Benson led the Falcons with a double, while Kiechel had two hits. Robins 9 Hawks 2: (May 17) The Robins broke the game open early with a six-run second inning. Marie Sonnichsen and Pat Crown combined to hold the Hawks to three hits. Sonnichsen, along with Jason Meyers, led the Robins in hitting at two-for-two. Sonnichsen added a double and a triple, while Meyers hit a double. Sparrows 8 Eagles 7: (May 20) Matt Werhane scored from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand the Sparrows a narrow 8-7 win over the Eagles. Jerry Luciano led the Sparrows 12-hit attack at three-for-three, four rbi's and two doubles. Greg Hagen was also three-for-three with a double. Werhane and Jeff Szalaj added two hits. Jack Wakish was three-for-three for the Eagles, including a triple. Ron Slaughter and Jim Green added doubles. Stacy Johnson was three-for-three, including a double and a triple, while Brenda Bromley doubled. Classic Trophies 12 Number seven: Classic Trophies broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning. Shelly Sauers was the big hitter for Classic Trophies at three-for-three, including a double and a triple. Cindy Shavers homered, Amy Sauers doubled and tripled and Pam Gregorio tripled for the winners. Timberlee Steward was the winning pitcher Soccer registration The McHenry Area Soccer Federation will be accepting registration for the fall of 1984 and the spring of 1985. Players born on, or before Nov. 30,1978 are eligible to play this fall. Children born between Dec. 1,1978 and Nov. 301979 will be eligible to pfray in the spring of 1985. A separate registration will be held at a later date for {his age-group. McHenry Men's 12-Inch Businessmen 18 River Shannon 11 Jerry Brodin hit a pair of two-run homers, while Gary Wagner added one homerun as the Johnsburg Businessmen out-slugged River Shannon 18-11. Brodin led the Businessmen's 19-hit attack with three hits, three runs and four ribi's. His first homer went over the left-field fence, while his second was an inside-the-park. Gary Wagner also had three hits, with three runs scored, two rbi's and two doubles. His homer also went over the left-field fence. John DeCiccio added three hits, along with three rbi's, a double and a triple. On the defensive side, Mark Schultz made a diving rolling catch to rob River Shannon's Ken Bottari of a hit. River Shannon's 16-hit attack was led by Larry Jones three-run inside the park homer. Doug Jones added three hits, while Brett Thomas added three rbi's. Rusty Nail 18 Huemann's 10 The Rusty Nail Inn just had too much power over Huemann's Water Conditioning, winning 18-10. Both Don Bentz and Joe Meyers slugged homeruns a piece during the 20-hit attack for Rusty Nail Inn. Bentz's homer sewed three runs. He also added a two-run single. John Meyers was a perfect three-for-three, while Rick Wakitsch and Kevin Bauer added doubles. Jim Althoff hit a 325-foot left-center homer for two rbi's to lead Huemann's. Tom Janik was three-for-three. Huemann's 9 River Shannon 6 Jim Althoff added another homer, this time a 320-foot three-run blast, to lead Huemann's to a 9*6 win over River Shannon. Gary Fairchild added an rbi triple in the fifth inning for the winners, while Tom Janik also tripled. Ken Bottari led River Shannon with a two-run inside the park homer. Doherty's 26 Lakeside 11 Dohety's pounded Lakeside Inn with a 24-hit attack in route to a 26-11 win. Dan Quinn led the winning attack at four-for-four with two rbi's. Paul Hyland also added a pair of two-run triples in the second and third inning to pace Doherty's to the early lead. Both Jim Wayman and Tom Roach added three hits. The catch of the day was made by Doherty's Mike LeGoode, slamming into the fence making the catch. He hung onto the ball despite cutting his face. Sunday 12-Inch softball Gary Lang 14 American Legion 9 John Thennes second homerun in two nights led Gary Lang to a 14-9 win over the American Legion during Sunday softball at Peterson Park. Also included in the Gary Lang 14-hit attack was three hits by Mike Dowling and triples by Jim Huff, Pete Buss and Vic Romandine. Martin had three hits for the American Legion, including a double.
