SECTION 2 - PAGE 8 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MAY 25, 1984 United Way elects directors, officers United Way of McHenry County has, elected seven directors and named five of­ ficers to lead the organization during 1984. Ronald W. Russell, of Crystal Lake, district manager, Com­ monwealth Edison Company, is United Way's new president. He replaces James J. Brown, president, First National Bank of Woodstock, who was re­ elected as a United Way director. Russell has served as a volunteer leader of United Way since 1979, when he was first elected to serve on the board of directors. In 1982, he served as vice president and 1982-83 general campaign chairman. During 1983, he served as vice president and chairman of United Way's Allocations committee, responsible for RONALD RUSSELL distributing over $360,000 to United Way member agencies. Russell holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. He is a registered professional engineer, a member of the Woodstock Economic Development Commission, Rotary Club of Crystal Lake and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He has served as a director of both Junior Achievement and the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce. E. Louise Rogers, Crystal Lake, was elected vice president and chairman of the campaign committee. She is a vice president and division general manager of Northern Illinois Gas Company. LeRoy Olsen of McHenry, was re-elected to the United Way Board and will serve as vice president and chairman of the allocations committee. He is president of Scan-Am Company, McHenry. John Saxton, Crystal Lake, was elected treasurer. He is a certified public accountant in private practice. Ronald Prather, Crystal Lake, was re-elected a director and was selected to serve as secretary. He is an attorney with the firm of Zukowski, Poper, Rogers, and Flood. Five civic and business leaders from throughout McHenry County were elected to initial terms on the 24-member United Way Board of Directors. They are: Dr^ttchard Farmer, superintendent, McHenry Elementary School District; Dr. Steven Rochell, M.D.; Beth Fleming, manager. Crystal Lake Ambutal; Ardee Lannhier. retired Harvard businessman; Nicholas Heinz, manager, Englewood Electric Company; Craig Loomis, controller, Sun Electric Company; and LeRoy Pesce, executive director, Memorial Hospital for McHenry County. In addition to officers and directors named above, following persons fr< throughout McHenry County currently serve on the United Way board of directors: Robert Bartlett, president, McHenry County College; Robert Blazier, superintendent, Crystal Lake Elementary School District; Frank Greenwald, vice president, Arnold engineering Co.; Jeanne Kerrigan; Roderick MacFarlane, vice president and general manager, Warner Electric Brake Co., Motion Control Systems Division; Rev. Ralph Smith, pastor, United Methodist Church of Marengo; Irma Braun, vice president, Harry L. Braun Co.; William Q. Douglass, vice president- components, Oak Industries; John Lynch, president, Lynch Data Processing Co.; Catherine Oost, president, Harvard Federal Savings and Loan Association; and Jack R. Haffner, McHenry County government. United Way's 19S3-1984 campaign, conducted last fall, raised over $280,000 to support United Way member agency services to over 30,000 McHenry County residents in 1984. During the current year, United Way is receiving ad­ ditional financial support from the United Way-Crusade of Mercy and United Way of Suburban Chicago, enabling United Way to provide total annual financial support in of $900,000 to fifteen County United Way agencies and the American Red Cross. Current United Way of McHenry County member agencies include: Blackhawk Area Boy Scout Council, WaKiYa Council of Camp Fire, McHenry County Catholic Social Services, Family Care Service of Lake and McHenry Counties, Family Service and Community Mental Health Center for McHenry County, Friendship House, Sybaquay Girl Scout Council, McHenry County Community Action Council (Headstart), McHenry Countv Association for the Retarded (Pioneer Center), the Salvation Army, Woodstock Christian Care Inc. Rich, 21, of 5122 Willow Drive, Wonder Lake, was cited for driving under the influence early Sunday following a one-car accident *out 2:40 a.m on Ringwood Road at McCullom Lake Road, McHenry. The driver reportedly told McHenry County sheriff's police that she was not involved in an accident. However, police in­ vestigations at the scene in­ dicated the Rich car left 45 feet of skidmarks, turned around and went backwards over a stop sign, struck a utility pole with the passenger side, then rolled over on the driver's side, skidding on pavement to a ditch on McCullom Lake Road, where it righted itself. Police reported the car was totaled in the ac­ cident. Louise M. Burg, 37, and her passenger, Michael A. Burg, 14, both of 1217 W. Goodview, McHenry, were taken to McHenry Hospital by McHenry Rescue Squad following an accident about 3:56 p.m. Friday on Bay Road, west of Weingart Road, McHenry, when the driver lost control of her car, which came to a stop on the top of a guardrail. Gary Simons, 32, 26438 N. Orchard, Barrington, was arrested Saturday by sheriff's police on charges of driving under the influence, after his vehicle was stopped by police at Illinois 120 and Chapel Hill Road, McHenry. Cloverleafs return from camping trip The May meeting was called to order by President Annette Freds. American and 4-H flag pledges were led by Amy Zvonar and Becky Walters. Secretary and treasurer reports were read. Mark Freels informed members of the Federation International night which was held May 21 in Woodstock. A committee finalized plans for a camp outing held at the Group Home on May 20. Certificates were distributed to members who helped the McHenry Parks and Recreation Department with its Easter Egg Hunt. On June 4 the club officers will have a meeting at the Zvonar home. The July club tour will be planned by members of that committee under the assistance of Mrs. Thennes and Mrs. Zvonar. Steve Smith gave a talk in­ forming members of emergency medical information.
