After exacting measurement, it was found the project en compassed 21,000 linear feet, not 18,500 linear feet. The roads vary from 16 to 20 feet wide. The final bid is $24,900, Zeman said. The proposal was accepted by the board at its meeting Tuesday night, but not without some dissension. Trustee Richard Matthei took an all-or-nothing approach, arguing that the village should come up with the additional $10,000 needed to sealcoat the entire six miles of village roads. Current plans are to sealcoat 75percent of the roads. Finance chairman Brian McLaughlin disagreed. "We do what we can afford," he said, "and doing Something is better than doing nothing." Zeman warned the increased price tag could mean tax an ticipation warrants if tax money is delayed as expected. McLaughlin said the extra cost should pose no serious threat, since a payment plan was worked out with the Crystal Lake contractor, Geske Sons Asphalt Paving and Excavating. But he said he is not sure the village will have tax mopey by mid-July when the bill will be due. Warrants may be needed to cover this cash flow, he added. The village plans to power sweep the roads in mid-June at a cost of $390.
