I. SECTION 2 - PAGE It - PLAINDE ALER - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27,1184 Foster homes sought for disabled adults Hie Jayne Shover Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center of Elgin is expanding its Specialized Home Placement program to provide foster home care for disabled adults, in addition to the children the program now serves. The program's goal is to place eight adults in foster homes in the next year. These adults may have cerebral palsy, epilepsy, be mentally retarded or have other disabling problems. Most of those who will be placed in foster care now reside in in stitutions. Or they may now reside with immediate family members or relatives, but because of changing cir cumstances such as illness, advancing age or death, may need another home. The Specialized Home Placement program serves residents of Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and northwest Cook Counties. Hie center is seekng potential foster parents in those areas who are willing to be licensed by the state to care for disabled adults and children. The qualifications to be a foster parent are: at least 21 years of ae, in good physical and emotional health, able to provide adequate space, financially stable, and genuinely willing to understand and lovingly care for children or adults with special needs. A foster parent may be single or married, with or without children. Each foster home is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services through the Jayne Shover Easter Seal Center. A home study is conducted, usually through three or four home visits with the potential foster parent(s). Discussed will be attitude toward foster paren ting, philosophies of child rearing, the special needs of developmental^ disabled adults and children and the effect on the natural children in the home. References are checked and sometimes employers are contacted. Before actual placement occurs, several visits are made by the disabled child or adult to the foster hodie, to get acquainted with each other. Persons interested in becoming a foster parent can contact the Jayne Shover Easter Seal Center at (312) 742-3264. BULL VALLEY BEEF 50 lb. Units *90°° Includes: 18 fts. Ground Beef, 17 Iks. Earl Walsh to speak at Sports History Day - Plans are underway at the McHenry County Historical Museum in Union to host a "County Sports History Program" on Sunday, Sep- _ • tember 16 from 1:30 to 4:90 p.m. With hopes of making this the biggest event of the season, arrangements are being made to invite local sports figures and members of early community teams out to the museum that Sunday to participate. Among the special exhibits being lined up will be one showing sports scrapbooks, some from the earliest years of this century. Other exhibits will show old uniforms and equipment as well as numerous photographs relating to athletics in this county dating through the 1960's. Among the speakers that afternoon will be Earl Walsh of McHenry who until recently covered sports in the McHenry area as sports editor of the McHenry Plaindealer beginning in 1935. The search is on for in formation on early home town teams or for those actively in volved with athletics in all communities in McHenry County. The Society invites any and all who were involved to^ bring old uniforms, equipment, pictures, scrapbooks, etc. to display that Sunday.
