You just can't forget some thing that bad. "We were up to our necks in a major storm, causing major damage. And a whole lot of Commonwealth Edison people on standby were being called in to restore the electric service it knocked out. On July 12, 1959, nine McHenry residents gathered together in a living room to make (dans and pray for the development of a Presbyterian church in McHenry. A few months later, the name, Faith was chosen because the members realized that with such a small beginning, a great deal of faith was needed if the church would grow and survive. Faith Presbyterian Church now numbers over 400 members and 200 active families and is currently preparing to celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary Sunday, July 15. On that day, the Reverend John Mclntyre of Clinton, 111., the organizing pastor of the church, will be preaching and many old friends will be present to share in a time of fellowship and fun. The special twenty-fifth an niversary service will be held at both the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. worship hours. Special music will enhance the memories and experience of that morning. Also, several charter members will share their experiences of the early years of the church. The entire morning will be culminated by a potluck lunch on the lawn, at which time the executive presbyter of the Presbytery of Blackhawk, the Reverend David Shields, will be present. Helping with preparations for the morning is the worship committee, headed by Barbara Dodds and Ralph Woodhull; and the fellowship committee, under the leadership of Colleen Taveirne and Branka Hoge. All present and former members and friends of Faith church are invited to come and participate on the 15th. Visitors are always welcome to attend this vital and growing church, located at the intersection of Lincoln and Chapel Hill roads, across from the drive-in movie theater.
