WILMOT, Wis. - McHenry's Dennis Carlton continued to dominate the spectator stock races Saturday, winning his eighth straight race win this year. But this time, he needed a little bit of help from Lady Luck. Carlton, who has rolled to victory after victory in the spectator stock classification this season, came from behind to snag the 15-lap feature this time. He took over the lead with six laps to go, as Bob Schweiss, who had been leading, received a flat tire while trying to rebuff Carlton's charge. LEGION continued from page 18 VEHRING SETTLED down striking out the side in the sixth, and adding another whiff in the seventh, but he and his team mates couldn't quite break CL starter Rick Burman and reliever Steve Markison, the team's ace. Cameron doubled and Vehring walked, as McHenry threatened, but a ground-out and a called third strike on Dunne quashed the rally. A hit, a walk and an error proved fruitless in the sixth, as Pankiewicz was picked off of third by Markison. The home nine went down meekly in the seventh. Hie loss drops McHenry to 8-3- 1 in the league, two of the losses coming at the hands of Crystal Lake. Williams praised his pitchers, noting Crystal Lake as a good hitting team. "CAMERON PITCHED well," Williams said. "I brought Vehring in after Cameron started to get hit hard, and Ross always throws real well. Crystal Lake had only eight hits in the game, while McHenry could salvage just seven. "We're usually a good hitting team," said Williams. "Except for the Madison tournament, we usually hit the ball." McHenry will have the op portunity to show its batting talents tonight, traveling to Algonquin for a 6 p.m. match up. ^1tv€ty time we go to Algonquin, we seem to hit a bit of a downer," said Williams. Dunne will open on the mound against the league pace-setters. Forced into the pits for a tire change, Schweiss, from Fox Lake, never recovered. Finishing second in the race was McHenry's Skip Carlton, while Bob Fleming, also of McHenry, finished fourth. Carlton's win was his 15th in 17 races at Wilmot.
