CHARLES / By June Fuller Dear June: I purchased a $2 clipboard in a local office supply store. Now I take it to the supermarket with my shopping list and coupons tucked under the clip. As I go down the aisles and mark off the items I have purchased, I put coupons for these items in a letter-size en velope I have taped to the bottom of the clipboard. When I reach the checkout counter I just take the coupons out of the envelope and add them up while I am waiting in line, and the clipboard makes it easy to make any other notes that will remind me of prices, specials and other information that will be helpful on my next shopping trip. - Bernice Taylor, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The Coupon Clipper CHARGE IT? We welcome your Spiess Charge, Visa, MasterCard and American Express! Dear Bernice: I hope there's a smart manufacturer out there who will read your letter and be inspired to make a clipboard especially for supermarket shoppers, one that can be securely attached to the handle of the shopping cart, and one that will also hold a pocket calculator. Dear June: There are always dirty clothes to be washed when you own a dairy farm, and with the price of detergent, the costs of keeping clothes clean can really add up. When a local supermarket had the regular sizes of detergent on sale for 99 cents, I gathered all my 50-cent detergent coupons. Using the coupons, which the store doubled, I bought 11 bottles of Solo, eight boxes of Cheer and six'boxes of Bold-all free. This supply will last for several months, but I'm already saving those 50-cent detergent coupons for my next shopping spree.-- Janet Rorhbaugh, Fairfield, Pa. Dear Janet: Most avid couponers are quick^to admit that with so many 50-cent detergent coupons being distributed by the manufac turers, detergent costs them very little. As you have shown us, the best way to use these coupons is to watch for sales on the smaller sizes where the coupon will give you the greatest percentage of savings. I do this and usually manage to save at least 50 percent. Of course, if the store offers to double my coupons, I do even better. Sherry Fong of San Mateo, Calif., has this tip on recycling envelopes; "We refunders use a lot of envelopes. My free source of envelopes are the window variety I receive in the mail. All I have to do is put one of my name and address stickers over the one printed in the upper left- hand corner and stick a piece of paper with the new address inside the window.
