Registrations being taken for child care The McHenry County College Child Care Center's schedule of fall semester classes is now set and registration is in progress. The Child Care Center is located in the Ridgefield Presbyterian Church. Child care specialist Dorothy Trefzger and her staff provide pre-school children with a variety of play and developmental activities aimed at helping them achieve their highest potential. The center is licensed, and in addition to providing quality day care on either a reserved time or drop-in basis, serves as a lab school for MCC students studying child care. The class calendar coincides with MCC's calendar, with fall semester classes beginning the week of August 27. Very popular is the Parent and Tot Program. Toddlers 18 to 32 months of age are in troduced to play with other children, in a group setting, with the security of having parents close by. Varied art activities are offered, as well as finger- plays, songs and simple group games. The program is scheduled for Friday mornings, 9:30 to 11 a.m., for 16 weeks. FREE WATER! FREE COOLER! Art and Music, for two and three-year olds, is essentially a scaled down preschool class specifically planned to en courage exploration of the world of rhythm instruments, movement and songs while allowing for the extra nur- turance needed by children in that age group. Participants will have opportunities to develop large motor skills and enjoy a daily story time. The class will meet Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30. The fee is $30 per month. New this semester at the MCC Child Care Center is the option of attending a two-day A.M. Pre school or a three-day P.M. Pre school. The purpose of both classes is to widen a child's experiences, stimulate their intellectual growth and creativity and provide an environment in which children can learn and play together. The educational program is planned to provide experiences encouraging cooperation and sharing, self- reliance, language develop ment, pre-mathematics and science skills, aesthetic and musical expression and physical coordination. Field trips extend classroom experiences to the community environment. The A.M. Pre-School is a complete pre-school class for three and four year olds. It meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for 16 weeks. The fee is $32 per month. -The P.M. Pre-School, for the older pre-schooler four to five year olds, is a three-day program that expands upon what is taught in the A.M Pre- School. Holding sessions on consecutive days helps reinforce the previous day's learning concepts. More emphasis is placed on language art and science-based activities, as the student is prepared for entrance into kindergarten. The class is scheduled for Tuesday, Wed nesday and Thursday, 12:30 to 3 p.m. for 16 weeks. The charge is $42 per month. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services requires all pre-school children to have a health examination by their physician prior to par ticipating in school functions. Forms can be obtained from the MCC Child Care Center along with enrollment forms. The completed certificate of child health is good for two years. To enroll a child in any class, or for information, call the MCC Child Care Center directly, at 455-4510, Monday through Friday, after noon.
