SECTION 2 - PAGE 8 - PLA1NDEALEE - WEDNESDAY, JULY 25,1184 Church • Yolo pastor offers prayer at House session In anticipation of attending a , Catholic Theological Convention at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., the Reverend James Lyons, Pastor of St. Peter Parish, Volo, contacted his friend, Congressman George O'Brien of Joliet, 111. to see if he could have the honor of offering the opening prayer at one of the regular sessions of the House of Representatives. Due to the efforts of Congressman O'Brien, Father Lyons realized his dream come true Wednesday, June 13, as he proudly addressed the House* Rev. Lyon's prayer said, in part: "We therefore pray to You, 0 Lord of all, that You enlighten the minds and inflame the hearts of our legislators with Your wisdom and love. With Your necessary and merciful help may the laws of our Nation always he a reflection of Your just and loving eternal law." Father Lyons was ordained at Mundelein. 111. May 3, 1951. He served seven parishes in Illinois; has been a Catholic chaplain in a number of associations; has degrees from Northwestern, Mundelein and DePaul universities and is a profound student. In addition to being a theologian, he is both an author and a teacher. • • The Rev. O'Neill of the Rockford Diocese Messes the new priests residence at St. Patrick's Church during a special service last Sunday. i\ Bishop O'Neill blesses St. Patrick's Church buildings in special service On Sunday, July 22, after a 12:15 Mass. said by Bishop Arthur J. O'Neill , the new Parish Center and priests residence at St. Patrick's Parish, McHenry were dedicated. Coffee and refresh ments were served in the lower level of the Parish Center af terward. The completion of the two buildings finished an effort of two and one-half years bv the parishioners of St. Patrick's and puts into actuality something that has been the aim and desire of most clergy for many years. With the construction of a separate Priests Residence, the Clergy are now separated from the day-to-day activities of parish administration and can find a place of quiet meditation. The Parish Center with its several meeting rooms, offer the many lay groups of the parish substantially more flexible space for meetings of both large and small groups of people. The increased lay participation in the parish life now has space in which to flourish. The Parish Center contains 7,800 square feet on two levels, with administrative offices, two meeting rooms and a staff conference room on the main level and two large meeting halls on the lower level. St. Patrick's, founded in 1840, is the second oldest parish in the Rockford Diocese and has weathered much of the great history of the United States. To preserve some of the names of those who have been a part of that history, it has'been decided to name the meeting rooms for the bishops of the Rockford Diocese. The Parish Hall, under the church, will be named for the first Bishop of the diocese, Peter Muldoon. Rooms in the Parish Center will be the Boylan and Hoban Rooms on the upper level, the Hillinger and Lane rooms on the lower level, and the staff conference room for Bishop O'Neill. It is hoped that as time goes oh historic scenes from McHenry County and Illinois will be hung in the various rooms. The Building Committee was composed of the following, Father Petit, Father Stringini, architect Guv Prisco of Batavia, project manager Henry Tonyan of McHenry, secretary Pat Sebesta, Jerome Miller-, Dr. Richard Gorski, and Jim Durkin, chairman, all of McHenry.
