Records in Nashville. Given the opportunity to make music together, the five then credit "teamwork and perseverance" for 4 the success of their three country and western singles, including the Top 20 hit "The Killin' Kind." The band will perform at the McHenry County Fair on Friday night, Aug. 3, at the grandstand. Wilson grew up playing drums and singing in Monroe, La., where his mother, father and uncle had a locally-popular family band. During the desegregation years, he was bus ed to an all-black high school where he played drums for the school band. He went on to Northeast Louisiana University jazz ensemble. He pursued his musical interests on weekends while he worked as a bank teller and in a men's clothing store. Meanwhile, bassist and vocalist Jerry Fox was literally growing up in his family's radio station in Hobart, Okla. He was a fulltime disc jockey at 11 and formed his first band at 16. After graduating from Boston Univer sity with a degree in public relations, he worked as a news reporter, deejay and program director at several New England radio stations before making the move to Nashville in 1978 to play bass for singer Charly McClain. Keyboard player Joe Van Dyke began studying classical piano at age 5. At 14, he was playing professionally around his hometown of Portsmouth, continued from page 68 on DOORS & WINDOWS!
