"Santa Barbara," a new soap premiering July 30 on NBC (3 p.m. EOT), incor­ porates the stratas of that Southern California com­ munity in relating the scan- dais, dreams and ambitions of four West Coast families. Dame Judith Anderson, who plays eccentric family matriarch Birdie Lock- wood, says she accepted the role because of her devotion to another Dob- son Productions series. "General Hospital." She never misses an episode of "GH." "General Hospital" was written for many years by Jerome and Bridget Dobson, who developed the new show and currently write and produce it. The successful pair has long been in the daytime series business, also earning writ­ ing credits for such long- funning soaps as "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns." Working with a soap is new to Dame Judith, who is known for her work in film and theater (she won an Emmy Award for her per­ formance in the Hallmark Hall of Fame production of "Macbeth"). On the stage, where she made her debut in Sydney in 1915, her early works include "Mourning Becomes Electra," "Medea" and "Hamlet" Her Hlms include "Rebecca," "Kings Row" Qina Lollobrlglda Dame Jiidlth Anderson and "Edge of Darkness." Dame Judith's "Santa Barbara" co-star is Marcy Walker, who will play 20- year-old college student Eden Capwell. Miss Walker will leave the cast of ABC's "All My Children," where she was the conniving, wayward Liza Colby, to be on the new show. As Eden Capwell in "Santa Barbara." Miss Walker will play a spirited, independent student searching for a lover as powerful and charismatic as her father, wealthy busi­ nessman C.C. Capwell (Lloyd Bochner) Miss Walker starred in the cable television movies "The Sister's Room" and "Christian and Katharine." and she co-starred in the PBS film "Life on the Mississippi." Soon, audiences will see her in the upcoming film "Hot Resorts," scheduled for an August release. 0tM4CempuHg 'FALCON' ADDITION -- When "Falcon Crest" begins its fourth season next fall on CBS, Glna Lol­ lobrlglda will be the new­ est recurring cast member. Miss Lollobrigida will play Angela Channing's half- sister, Francesca Gioberti. The actress first became a star in this country with the 1956 movie "Trapeze," also starring Burt Lancas­ ter and Tony Curtis. Her role on the nighttime soap wHI be Miss Loliobrigida's television debut. POLITICS AND MUR­ DER -- Gregory Harrison and Cyblll Shepherd are now filming "Seduced." a CBS television movie about an ambitious politician * (Harrison) who is asked by a scandal-racked corpora­ tion to be the company's president. The politician feels he must first solve the rrturcar of the wealthy industrialist who supported him for the post and becomes romanti­ cally ln«">lved with the man's wiwow (Miss Shep­ herd) in the process. ©i« FORBIDDEN LOVE - Valerie Bertlnelli stars with David Morse ("St. Elsewhere") and Patricia Neal in "Scattered Vows," an NBC teievision movie now in production for the fall. Miss Bertinelli plays a young nun who falls in love with a priest (Morse). When her desire to have a family overcomes her devo­ tion to the convent, she leaves before taking her final vows. COURT-SHIP -- Former Charlie's Angel Shelley Hack and the actor who played the sharp-tongued make-up man on "Buffalo Bill." Charlie RoMneon. will be regular cast mem­ bers on NBC's "Night Court" starting in the fall.
