The pulls will be held Saturday, Aug. 4; and Sunday, Aug. 5. Trucks and tractors of every age and shape will be able to strut their stuff on a dirt track in front of the grandstand. According to t ractor pull superintendent Everett Hunter, 90 to v 100 tractors will participate in the fair event. Last year, 15 trucks competed. Hunter added, it's just not area farmers who are showing off their tractors. "Many businessmen participate in the tractor pull. It's a hobby. Sunday (farm tractor class) is strictly for farmers. "The truck pull is for local people," said Hunter. "This is chance for them to see what their truck can pull without getting ticketed from the cops." Hunter, along with over 30 other volunteers that include family, will be working to get the tractor and truck pull show off. Hunter said the pull takes place on a raised dirt track with heavy packed clay. It's graded and packed all day. Ken Fiske does the announcing for all the shows. The object, according to Hunter, is to pull what's called an eliminator as far as the vehicle is able to. The eliminator is a big sled which transfers its weight towards the front the further it travels. The first show of the event will feature the antique tractors and stock four-wheel drive trucks. The stock antique tractors, said Hunter, must have been built by 1937. The classes include 3,500 pounds, 4,500 pounds and 5,500 pounds. The Northern Illinois Antique modifieds are trucks built before 1959. "These are real hot machines," Hunter said. "They are used old anti que tractors and they really soup them up." The classes in this category include 4,500 pounds (1940), 5,500 pounds (1950), 6,500 pounds (1955) and 7,500 pounds (1959).. Hunter said the stock 4-wheel drive trucks and vans are also "really souped up." • The classes in this pull list weights of 5,800 pounds stock, 5,800 pounds super stock, 6,400 pounds stock and 6,400 super stock. Last year was the first pull for this class. Hunter expects more trucks to enter this year. Sunday's farm tractor pull is the main show, according to Hunter. ON YOUR WAY TO THE FAIR...
