AUGUST 22,1M4 Neighborhood news Wonder Lake: Managers and coaches to show boys how it's done All the members of the Boy's Baseball organization and their families will be able to enjoy a picnic to be held at Christ The King fields Sunday, Aug. 26, beginning at 1 p.m. The league will be supplying hot dogs and pop for everyone right at 1 p.m., which will be followed by the presentation of trophies. Anna Sowers 653-9549 A manager and coaches baseball game will be held at 3 p.m., which should be fun for the boys who played on their teams to see! I hope the rescue squad is prepared when they start running around the bases! CELEBRATION SUCCESS The talk around town seems to all center around the marvelous birthday celebration of the dam. It was definitely a success from the viewers' standards and those working. It was such a pleasai# two days for all in volved. If by chance ygu missed the parade, you definitely missed the greatest parade ever. Right from the very beginning, with George Gutzman as the parade marshall, down to every float, vehicle, or group walking, it was great. The army marching band had to be one of the highlights, also. They brought chills of pride to all of us watching. An array of food treats could be found as you walked down Hancock Dr. with brats, hot dogs, watermelon, corn on the cob, hot beef, and liquid refresh ments. Back at the American Legion, crowds formed to eiyoy the pig roast. No one anticipated the number of people who would be standing in line for a pontoon boat ride. They were a huge success, also. The only disappointment was the rides that were scheduled for the children. Unfortunately, they never arrived, but since everything else worked out so well, we shouldn't complain. It was a great celebration with happy moments for all! The whole community thanks Lorraine Murphy and the Rev. Richard Wright, who were co- chairmen of the two-day event and Chris Niehaus, who was in charge of the parade, and all those who worked so hard to make it the success it was. SODALITY LUAU The Ladies Sodality of Christ Hie King Church held its annual cookout with a Hawaiian theme Thursday, Aug. 16, on the church grounds. Delicious Hawaiian baked chicken, many salads, and yummy desserts were enjoyed by approximately 35 ladies. Sue Keener, who was to take over as president, injured her ankle and is in a wheelchair and was unable to attend. Barb Barthuly, vice president, ac cepted the gavel from outgoing president, Addie Pecklofor Sue, who will be installed at a later date, along with Betty Chevouplos, the new treasurer. Lucy Coleman will be remaining on the board as secretary for one more year. Hie next meeting will be held in October. BACK TO SCHOOL "Where has the summer gone?" seems to be what everyone is saying, especially all our young people. Harrison is back this week and District 12 begins next week, so summer is really over. Our college kids are packing and will be off to their lives away from home. I'm one of those silly moms who really enjoy having all the young people around and in and out of the house, so I never look forward to fall. SPECIAL DAYS Happy birthday to Terry Haak, who will be celebrating his special day Aug. 28. Also on Aug. 28, Ben DeCicco will be blowing out birthday candles. Happy Birthday to Joe Sullivan, Jr., who will be back at Marquette University starting his senior year when his bir thday rolls around Aug. 30. -iWim McCullom Lake: Twenty attend shower A baby shower was held for Denise L. Suchor Saturday, Aug. 11, at her grandmother Lillian Parenti's home. Twenty guests yelled 'surprise' as Denise walked in the front door. A cold buffet featuring ham, meat loaf, jello molds, zucchini puffs, seven-layer salad, chappaquidick salad and garden green beans, prepared Italian style, were served. A yellow cake with lemon filling and decorated in whip cream, prepared by Irene Suchor, was served for dessert, along with creme cheese frosted zucchini bars. Two games were played, with Denise's godmother, Marie McKim, being the top prize winner. All involved had a good time. Denise received many beautiful gifts, but two of the most memorable, being hand made, were the Care Bear, Grumpy, made by Val Klap- perich and a mobile, hand painted and sewn by her sister Daureen Parent! Denise and Dennis are ex pecting their first child in September. We wish them the best.
