ma SECTION 2 - PAGE • - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, AUGUST 24,1M4 Tour of western Europe being offered Library puppet show Now is the time to start planning for a special European study program which includes a week-long cruise to the Greek Tainmia and a nine-day land program in Italy, acording to Ossie Rometo and Erwin Cor nelius, members of the faculty at McHenry County College. The European program will be led by qualified college (acuity who will provide par ticipants with educational in sight into major museums and cultural centers. The instructors have both lived and studied in Europe. Applications and reservations are now being area residents from high seniors through adults who want to devote 17 days learning about the art and culture of such cities as Florence, Rome, Venice, and Athens. In addition, the group will visit artistic and historical sites on the Greek Islands of Rhodes, Crete and Corfu. An additional port of call is Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia. Undergraduate and graduate credit is available for the study program. The purpose of the travel-study program is to offer accepted from ram high school a quality education abroad which focuses on three or four major artist centers in Western Europe. The study programs began 11 years ago as an effort to encourage area residents to take advantage of the college. Participants range in age from 18 to 70 years of age, and do not have to be enrolled presently at the community college or at a university. High school seniors are also eligible. Although there are no prerequisites, par ticipants devote their efforts during the abroad program to full-time study of the arts. Participants wUl receive on-site lectures from university-trained local Uffizi Galleries in Florence, and Doges Palace in Venice and at the National Archeological Museum in Athens, among other sites. Cost of the program from Chicago begins at under $1,700. At no additional charge par ticipants may choose to prolong their stays in Greece and Italy. Crisis line invites public to discussion , Connection, Lake County's only 24-hour crisis, information and referral line, is holding training classes for volunteer telephone workers. Curt Wennerdahl, Con nection's training director, invites the community to view one of the classes in action. On Thursday, Oct. 25, persons may participate in a discussion on the theory of suicide. The shots are offered by the McHenry Cbunty Board of Health with the endorsement of the McHenry County Medical Society. immunization for the prevention of measles, polio, diphtheria, tetanus and other communicable diseases are offered the 1st Wednesday of each month. The shots are necessary for a child to be ennHled in school, but the board of heath recommends that they be administered as soon as medically indicated after birth.
