WE'RE OFFI -- The National Football League starts the "real" -- as NBC sneeringly announced in its commercials for its pre-season games -- foot ball season today. And with it CBS has proudly announced that Drew Pearson, former Dallas Cowboy star receiver, has joined its long list of ex-jocks who describe the game to the non-jocks in the TV audience. Pearson's qualifications, which include "a deep knowledge of the NFL and an ability to express his thoughts most clearly," will make him a valuable addition to the NFL announcer staff, according to Peter Lund, a CBS Sports vice president. r Does that mean he won't need Marty Glickman? Who's Marty Glickman? Glickman is an old-time sporty broadcaster who, after starring at football at Syracuse University and on the U.S. track team in the 1936 Olympics, became a radio announcer for many years with Madison Square Garden, the New York football Giants, Jets and basketball's New York Knicks. His job with NBC for the past few years has been to coach the network's many former players, who are now sportscasters, to do their jobs. Bob Griese, former Miami Dolphin standout quarterback, is one of Glickman's top pupils. "Mar ty offers a great deal of constructive criticism that has proved to be c tremendous boost to my growth as an analyst," says Griese. Such announcers as Bob Costas, Marv Albert. Dick Stockton and Frank Gifford had their careers started with Glickman's help. ©1M4 Compuloo S3 © 0) Good 03 Mots 9:30 AM O h,.
