The newest edition of "WomanWatch" plays Sept. 12 on WTBS with its best lineup of women pro files ever. Susan Butcher headlines the half-hour show as the only female dog-sled racer to run the Alaskan Iditerod, a gruel ing 1,000 mile trek from Anchorage to Nome. She braves wolves, moose, frostbite and hypothermia for the race, which she's run seven times, twice winning second place. Even more incredible is that Miss Butcher lives alone in the Alaskan bush with no running water or electricity, with her 70 Alaskan husky dogs for company. A cheerful, confident woman. Miss Butcher says that loneli ness is never a problem. Other profiles on this month's "WomanWatch" include Susan Forrest, a makeup artist Who works in a Hollywood prosthetic lab that creates special effects -- faces that ooze, hands that pulse -- for movies. "If I can make someone feel really queasy in a turn then I'm happy," she says. Miss Forrest was the catalyst behind the creation of the first Academy award cate gory for makeup. • 1M4 Also profiled is Carol Persson, an astronomer who is analyzing data sent back from the Voyager missions. Her enthusiasm for the "mystery of the universe," as she puts it, is infectious. It's an exceptionally good "WomanWatch." In the past, sometimes, the show has profiled women who were not very scintil lating themselves, despite their interesting careers. This program is different. MORE PROFILES - Over on the Arts & Enter tainment Network there are .more profiles: Pete Seeoer and Paul Cezanne. "Pete Seeger on the Hudson." playing Sept. 14 and 15, portrays the leg endary folk singer -- can he realty be 65 years old? -- fighting tor his latest cause, cleaning up the Hudson River. 'Music, at its best, helps us not only to forget our troubles." he says, "but to understand our troubles and occa sionally. music helps us to do something about our troubles." - The French post- impressionist painter, in "Cezanne: The Sense of Sound." oit Sept. 12 and 13, is profiled through dis plays of his paintings in his various styles and nar ration about his life by Sir Lawrence Cowing. It's an exceptionally beautiful lesson in art history. tol. (R) {Closed Captioned] 0 MOVIE: *Htfh Siarra' A gangster and o girl hide out in the High Sierras until the police find them. Reichardt •* Dawn .Parrish and her character, Ronnie Angelo, have both come a long way since Miss Parrish joined the cast of "Capitol." Whan she first took the role. Miss Angelo described her character as "too nice for words An all around doormat and a goody-two- shoes rolled into one." But since then Ronnie has been through changes and Miss Parrish explains how they-, came about. "Changes in a character can happen as a result of a combination of things," she says. "Things that ypu do that the writers notice, conversations with produc ers about what you would like to see happen to the character, and what the producers see in you per sonally that can be brought out in your character." Miss Parrish currently feels that "Ronnie's greed and ambition will soon come to the forefront, and she'll go for whatever she can get out of life." espe cially since her small-time gangster father Danny was shot to death. Having appeared in pro ductions of such musicals as "The Pirates of Penzance." "West Side Story" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." the latter at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. Miss Parrish hopes to be given more opportunities to sing on "Capitol." Dawn Parrish "I've only been able to sing on the show twice so far." she remembers. "If I couldn't sing in my real life, I'd be miserable I've been singing and dancing for so long. I guess I want to do everything, act. dance and sing " Can a young actress such as Miss Parrish. who is married, working on a soap, and trying to com plete a master's degree, have it all. including fame9 Answering without hesita tion, Miss Parrish says. "I don't know if every woman can, but I will. I want to get a taste of everything." On the subject of fame Miss Parrish continued "Fame is fleeting I jusi want to work and build on my reputation as a good actress. If money and star dom follow, fine: but hey aren't that important to -ne. I just want to keep moving in a forward direction " ©tSSSOwwee
