"Now choose which item does not fit in the picture. The land* I say almost lost. "I attended a special city council meeting recently con cerning the cosponsorship of an experimental landfill in Knox Park. 1 was horrified to learn that Mayor Stanek (and ap parency Aid. Datz) thought that it was a very feasible location. 5, Inc. brought a legion of to the meeting and I all of the city council's with the finesse of DeLorean. The residents of McHenry should be glas that the majority of our aldermen were as shocked by the idea of a landfill in a city park as we are. "As concerned citizens and answe questio the closest property owners to the proposed 'site,' my husband and 1 were outraged that no notification of any kind had been made to the public. The mayor made the excuse that it was on cable television, but uih fortunately, not everyone has cable available. "I think it is time for our residents to take a step back and ask some questions of ourselves and of the mayor and city council. What kind of town to we want McHenry to be? Is every money-making proposition, such as the landfill or gravel pit expansion, going to greeted with open arms regardless of our health and the environment? Just who was to actually benefit from the experimental landfill? "Let's rethink our priorities. I, for one, cannot, and will not, allow an experimental landfill in our city. "Jean C. Just delve into the feline world and you will come up with an enigma the likes of which cannot usin anderin BY KAF Whatever the reason, almost any cat holds secrets that surpass the intrigue of today's best sellers. Consider the story of a McHenry family who opened the door one recent evening to be greeted by a kitty which made it very evident it was available for adoption. If there were no accept an arrangement in which they could just be friends. The first mystery in this story is how the intruder was able to spot a sucker for anything wearing fur. It is part of the whole puzzle that this purring mass of kitfcr would be so adept at the age bid congame that it settled on this particular Waukegan Street address for a handout of food, a bed and af- be found in the annals of any other species. . Maybe it's the languid movement of its body; or it could be the secrets held behind slanting eyes; it might even be the animal's complete disdain of the huijhan world when it wants to be aioof. Would they open the door wide enough for him to enter? Because of a jealous feline of their own in the house, they would not. Did this deter the pushy stranger? Not at all. The next best thing to the whole house is bread and board. This is accomplished with a whine and a glance that signifies he is at least very hungry, if not, in fact, facing starvation. This takes an actor of the highest order. • 1* Transplant law signed Persons in need of organ transplants will be able to receive heeded financial assistance for their operations under a bill signed into law by Gov. One was in the Waukegan area, the other downstate. The number called put the family in touch with the recreation center of Warren Township, where they learned Mouser (an identification on the collar) belonged to a custodian who "either kept it in the park or at home." Instead of waiting to be picked up, the reluctant benefactors of Mouser decided to return him to ; his rightful owner. Was Mouser in accord? Of course. Upon arrival at Warren • Township Recreation Renter, he waited with patience fdr the car door to be opened again, much in the styl€ Of a Fifth Avenue doorman. How had Mouser gotten into a car? And how did his travels stop in McHenry? He was known to enjoy an occasional ride.
