There are hundreds of homeless dogs waiting at shelters to be adopted. If you are planning on adding a dog to your family, check with Helping Paws, perhaps we have what you have been looking for. Arthritis self-help course to begin in Crystal Lake Arthritis is a pain-but people who have the disease can learn to control it by taking the Ar­ thritis Self-Help Course spon­ sored by the Arthritis Foun­ dation, Illinois Chapter. The course will be offered in 20 locations throughout northern Illinois beginning the week of Oct. 8. The class will meet weekly for two hours and 15 minutes over six weeks. Class participants will learn skills to minimize pain and cope with their arthritis. Appropriate exercises, doctor patient relationships, relaxation exercises, depression, nutrition, what to expect from medications and evaluation of unproven remedies will be covered in the course, The atmosphere of the course is supportive and encouraging. By interacting with others, those who take the course learn that they are not alone, participants learn coping strategies from each other. Classes will be held locally in Crystal Lake.
