Doug Odell, retired Sears and Roebuck marketing executive, said a business' size is much less important than its marketing techniques He will share in formation intended to improve marketing skills during the seminar, "Marketing-The Goal is the Sale." The seminar wilt be held Oct. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at McHenry County College (MCC). According to Odell, marketing is a creative artt not an exact science. In his 35 years at Sears, his work was more often based on proven skills in com munication and motication than on technical knowledge. He prefers pioneering and creative marketing to routine ad ministrative or scientific ap proaches to sustaining a program. Seminar participants will study specific approaches taken by organizations in marketing their products and services and the outcome of these efforts. Areas of focus will include buying at a profit, research, pricing, competition, telephone usage and credit selling.
