Selections to be presented will range cert will begin at 3 p.m. College jazz band schedules performance The McHenry County College Jazz Band will give a free cohcert at the college on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. in the student lounge. A reception will follow the concert. Everyone who likes jazz is en­ couraged to attend. The band will play selections ranging from the swing era to jazz-rock and will include "Leap Frog", "Misty", "Chameleon", "Watch What Happens" and "Another Star". Michael Basaq, the band's leader tor the past tKree years, at­ tended Northern Illinois Universi­ ty for undergraduate study in music education and is now com­ pleting graduate study in wood­ wind performance at DePaul University. He teaches clarinet, flute and saxophone at MCC and also teaches at Barrington, Cary Grove, Batavia and Crystal Lake High Schools, in addition to per­ forming professionally in the Chicago area. Future plans for the band in­ clude performances at area schools throughout the year. Ac­ cording to Bazan, the band is available to perform at communi­ ty and school functions. This year's MCC Jezz Band in­ cludes: Mike Bazan, saxophone, Wonder Lake; Michael Collins, d rums, Woods tock; David Childress, alto saxophone, Crystal Lake; Ricardo Garcia, guitar, Woods tock; Jon Kur tzman, trumpet, Woodstock; Diane Meier, piano, Crystal Lake; Shirley Pepke, baritone sax­ ophone, Marengo; Chris Ray, bass, Island Lake; Kenneth Thelander, trombone, Cary; Kurt Weber, trumpet, Cary; Robert Webster, trombone, Crystal Lake; and David Wel l s , d rums, , Woodstock. Fun time set at library for adults, kids Mrs. Dolores Rogers, cbildrens librarian, has announced "fun time" at the McHenry Public L ib ra ry , a con te s t i n t he children's section of the library. Any child who guesses the correct amount of jelly beans in a jar will win a $5 cash prize, plus the jar of jelly beans. The winner will be an­ nounced on Thursday, Nov. 1. Whilfe the young people are counting jeUy beans, parents can enjoy themselves by spending a few minutes browsing in the best seller section of the library. The top 10 best, sellers include Fredrick Forsyth's new thriller "The Fourth Protocol", "The Miracle" by Irving Wallace, and Belva Plains' latest success, "Crescent City". These books plus many popular non-fiction novels such as "True Joy of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale and "Bridge Across Forever" by Richard Bach, are available. Any book, periodical or publica­ tion that is not currently available may be obtained through the resources and services of the Nor­ thern Illinois System (NILS). The McHenry Public Library also pro­ vides a bulletin for outside o rgan iza t ions ; space a s a "distribution center" for those wishing to leave pamphlets, etc. for general public use; a local McHenry and McHenry County History and Genealogy Room; a typewriter (for those who own a library card); a copy machine; a large print book section; a com­ munity room and hundreds of paperbacks. Two McHenry residents were arrested for driving under the influence by McHenry County Sheriffs Police over the past week. Keith R. Schuler, 22, was cited for driving under the influence following a one-car accident about 2:30 a.m. last Sunday on Illinois 31 north of Johnsburg Road, McHenry, when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle, which left the road and struck a utility pole. Sheriff's police also arrested a driver early Saturday after his vehicle was located in a ditch on Riverside Drive near Johnsburg Road, McHenry.
