W Sports NUMBERS GAME 'I've got it Plaindealer-Herald Photo by Chris Juzwik McHenry's Deanne Martin lobs over the outstretched hands of Johnsburg's Bev Hiller during first round play in the McHenry Regional Tuesday. The Skyhawks won in four games. WOLSCHLAGER HAS rushed for an average of over 100 yards per game for the Streaks, and McHenry will be hard-pressed to the fleet, hard-running >r. Schlender said Wolschlager is one of the best runners the Warriors have or will see in 1964. Those comparable on the McHenry coach's list are Dave Rowden of Grant, Greg Schultz of South and Jared Sasser of CL Central. "They're all fine runners, but all different kinds too," Schlender said. "Schultz is more of a breakaway threat, and Sasser is your basic 'three- yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust' runner. Rowden and Wolschlager can run hard in side, lout are fast enough to go outside as well. Schultz is a good back, but he's not the power runner that Wolschlager is." It would be tough to play power football against them." For McHenry's defense, which has been as big a reason for the Warriors' turnaround as anything, the key will be to stop the running back tandem of Carnell Washington and Warren Wolschlager. "They have an outstanding running game," Schlender admitted. "No question about it. But they have been using a lot of play-action passes. They scored two touchdowns on passes Saturday (against Cary-Grove). "What they like you to do is continued from page 20 We'll concentrate on the run. have to play them honest. The real key to the game in Schlender's eyes? "Two things. One, I feel if we get across the 50, we have to score. We can't wa?te scoring opportunities. The other is that u we get a turnover, we have to score. That's critical." Okay, Joe, but who's gonna win this game? "I foresee the team that scored three touchdowns will win. Both defeats Woodstock suffered, the opposition scored three touchdowns. If we can do that, we can win." Creutz also has a McHenry County championship under his belt, and a regional honor would be another jewel in what has been a dazzling season. Johnsburg, whose number one runner, Mike Lawrence, is coming off an impressive conference win himself, will be one of the entries at Saturday's regional.
