Mary Rose led another session on "Women of the Bible," the ongoing study of the group. It is very interesting and affords everyone the opportunity to learn more and remember many things about Bible women. Jim Lynott's speech, "The Big Game" won him Best Speaker of the Evening award at the Oct. 22 meeting of McHenry Area Toastmasters, as the chibinet at McHenry High School West Campus. Other speakers were Gloria Otth, "Majestic Monument;" Kitty Bartlett, "Autumn;" Bill Pictor,, "Be a ToastMASTER;" and Bea Newkirk, "Share the Joys of Gardening." The next meeting will be held at McHenry Country Club at 8:30 Saturday morning, Nov. 10. This will be a combined meeting with the Crystal Lake club, and all interested persons are welcome to attend. The next meeting of the Lakeland Park Women's Club will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m., at the community house, when Cecilia Oakford and Victoria Bottari will be hostesses. Guests are always welcome. When the group met for its October meeting only one member was missing. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by words of welcome by President Bar bara Meurer. ' Vice-president Marie Cross gave a report on the annual Christmas Dinner Party to be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Longhorn Steak House Restaurant, at 6:30 pm. Members should try to bring their ticket money to the November meeting. Everyone was asked to also bring scissors, to help cut pieces for lap robes. Birthday gifts for the nursing home was discussed and a list of suggested items will be brought to that meeting, too. The FISH collection amounted to $21; the "White Elephant Sale" was a lot of fun and earned some money for the treasury. Delicious refreshments were served by Marie Nichols and Barbara Meurer. The deadline for entering a can didate is Monday, Nov. 12. Criteria for eligibility has been set by the committee as follows: 1) There is no age requirement. 2) The woman does not have to be a member of the Business and Professional Women. 3) A formal education is not necessary. 4) She has to have working experience but can presently be retired. 5) Tlie term "working" is broad, inasmuch as it can in clude any type of professional, business or ' industrial em ployment, domestic housework, child care, etc. 6) She must have participated in community service through charity or volunteerism. One may nominate the same candidate every year, as all entries are filed and considered each time of selection. Choosing the one woman out of many who are all deserving of this coveted title is a pain staking, thorough study by the committee members. They take into consideration all of the information that has been submitted on the candidates and carefully compare all of the qualifications. The final choice must be unanimous, but when it's made, there is generally a feeling with each committee member that "it would be nice if 'so and so' could win too, but maybe next year..."
