"My Pledge to America" is the theme for the 1984 contest. Gerry Kuck, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary local chairman for the contest, states details are available at the schools in McHenry and Johnsburg. Local winners will be awarded United States savings bonds and will advance to competition with winners from high schools in the VFW Fifth District. The United States savings bonds which will be awarded to the top five essays in the Fifth District are in the amounts of $1,200 for first >lace, 1900 second place, $600 place, $300 fourth place place third , m and $150 fifth place.
