Debaters take top Ijpnors Maintaining a tradition of winning, the McHenry High School debate team has cap tured nine trophies in three of their last four competitions. Top debater on the McHenry team, Chris Bassi, a senior at East, most 'recently won trophies as firstplace speaker at the Rockford Tournament and took third place individual speaker at the Leyden tour nament a week earlier. Her partner, Laura Dworniczek, also a senior at East, captured fifth place. The pair were judged the first ilace team at the Rockford :ord tourney as well. place Guilfi A variety of activities are planned at Johnsburg High School to assist students In preparing for graduation with a sense of self and society, and the skills necessary to serve both. This past week, sophomore students took the California Occupational Preference System Inventory (COPS). This test is designed to assist students in career planning. The first step Jji career planning is to define the student's oc cupational interests. On Nov. 27, the Armed Ser vices Vocational Aptitude Radio stations carry news of storm closings As winter months approach, so does the likelihood of school closings due to bad weather. The decision to close schools is generally made by about 6 a.m. of the day school is to close. Any decision to close McHenry schools for a day is made jointly by the director of tran sportation and the superin tendents. In the event of school closings, the following radio and television stations will broad cast the news. Battery (ASVAB) will be ad ministered to interested students. The test is an aptitude test which measures developed abilities ami is intended to predict what a person could accomplish with training or further education in a particular area. A more individualized test, the Self-Directed Search (SDS) is also available. This test is an interest inventory designed to assist students in career choice, based on personality charac teristics. A financial aid planning night has be scheduled for Dee. 19 at Johnsburg High School. The night is intended to help explain financial aid procedures. DIST. 12 MEETINGS A meeting of the Dist. 12 Building and Grounds com mittee is set for 6:30 p.m. at the fgh school in the vocational ucation area concerning donations to that department. The regular board meeting will be at 7:45 p.m. at Ringwood School. Their junior-varsity team mates, Seth Elliott and Tim Gray, both sophomores at West, won third place team honors at both the Leyden and Rockford invitationals.
