Home care week named by governor Director Janet S. Otwell of the Illinois Department on Aging has joined Governor Thompson and the more than 200 member agencies of the Illinois Council of Home Health Services in recognizing "Illinois Home Care Week," Nov. 25 through Dec. 4. "This year's observance is particularly significant to the Illinois Department on Aging, since we are planning to fund a Home Health Demonstration Project at three sites beginning in January," said Otwell. / "Hie purpose of the project will be to help us obtain data on whether or not there is a need to add home health services to our Community Care Program, a statewide program designed to help older persons continue living in their own homes if they don't need 24-hour care offered in a nursing home." Applications for the project will be received by the depart ment on aging through Nov. 28, with announcement of project sites expected by late Decem ber. The demonstration will be funded from January, 1985 to June, 1985, with the possibility of a one-year continuation. (MCCD) Program leader, John Sheil of MCCD describes the tour as '"a look at the countryside with different eyes." He explains that, as the stopping place tor the most recent ice advance, McHenry County offers dramatic examples of such features as kames, outwash plains, kettles, and moraines. The tour and the short movie preceding it are designed to give a historical perspective on the « land forms in McHenry County. "Knowing the general glacial background of an area is a great help in understanding its overall ecology," Shiel adds. /The program will begin at 8:30 fi.m. on Dec. 8 at the MCCD office in Glacial Park. Following a 30-minute film, participants will board a coach bus for a three hour tour. One stop at a Harvard area gravel pit will involve a three-quarter mile walk. Although no bench stop is planned, participants are encouraged to bring along their own snacks and beverage. The bus will return to Glacial Park by 12:30 p.m. The program cost is five dollars per person. Name, address, and phone number with check payable to MCCD may be mailed to MCCD Geology Bus, Ringwood, II. 60072. Reser vations may be assumed con firmed unless a phone message to the contrary is received. Further information is available from the MCCD office, (815) 678-4431 or 338-1406.
