He received certification from the American Board of Surgery in 1982. A former Glenview resident, Lambruschi received his BA degree f from Northwestern University, Evanston and at tended the Chicago Medical School, where he received his MD with honors in 1975. Room rate increase slows The rise in room rates charged by hospitals has slowed to almost half of what it was a year ago, according to figures released by the Chicago Hospital Council (CHC). The slowdown represents a continuing trend which began in 1983, when the increased in daily room rates slipped to 10.6 percent from 16 percent in 1982. This year's 5.6 percent increase, measured from June, 1983 to June, 1984, marks the lowest room rate increase since 1972. The 5.6 percent represents an average, calculated from the 85 hospitals participating in the survey. Hospitals have cut costs by removing beds from service, establishing more efficient staff scheduling, adjusting supply purchases to fit smaller in patient populations and developing out-patient programs. "We are not closing beds or sections of the new hospital because we had these concepts in mind when the hospital was designed. We are, nowever, developing other ways to ad minister quality health care in conjunction with changing •times," said Roger O'Connor, director of community relations. Among the new programs are the out-patient surgicenter where mmor surgery can be done with minimal time spent in the hospital, mammography (breast screening) to detect problems and an extensive cardiac rehabilitation program. marketing TV systems A new system for centralized control of all television receivers in a hospital is being marketed by Scan-Am, of McHenry. From one computer console, an operator can direct discrete entertainment or educational programming to any one or group of televisions, control the automatic delivery of programs on a predetermined schedule and determine the channel status of any given television. According to LeRoy Olsen, president of Scan-Am, "In stitutional TV systems must be automated to be of additional value in reducing the number of full-time employees required to administer the use of television for entertainment or education purposes." With the advanced technology, a hospital can implement its own patient TV rental program without having the expense of attendants locking or unlocking sets and collecting money. Patients wanting service can call the operator and the set for that bed can be turned on. The system also allows a hospital to direct video education to specific patients or staff members. During an emergency, the hospital controls the flow of information to every television from the central location. WE'LL GIVE YOUR FIELDS THE CUSTOM TREATMENT.
