Contratulations to the parents Wonder Lake: Work on dam Eld McMahon, member of the Lake Committee, is shown above viewing the construction work in process at the Wonder Lake dam. In order to correct problems with the spillway of the Wonder Lake dam, construction crews have been busy this fall. They just completed this final stage that has been long-coming for the past four years. Ed Beard, president of the Master Property Owners Association, in talking about the work on the dam, said, "This final step being reached proves that the 18 subdivisions of Wonder Lake, working together toward a common goal, can indeed get the job done and without further dues, taxes, state or federal help." Anne Sowers 653-9549 CANNED GOODS Each year, the students of Harrison School, in cooperation with the American Legion of Wonder Lake, collect canned goods for the needy in our area. The student may bring canned goods in to school during the next few weeks and all of the items collected will be given to the American Legion just before the holidays for distribution. Greenwood School and Nor- thwood Junior High, in con junction with the Woodstock Clearing House,0 also will be collecting canned gdods, clothing in good condition and toys. TTtiere are boxes placed in their front halls where the items can be placed. CALENDAR CHAIRMAN I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Ed McMahon, chairman of the Calendar Committee, and his wife Louise, in order to obtain more facts about the calendar project. If enthusiam will make this project a success, the Mc- Mahons have already reached their goal. Ed has had ex perience with fund raising projects in the past with his Moose Lodge in Chicago, and a similar calendar at St. Rita's For Your Information Dear friends, High School in Chicago. With the inception of this idea, a survey was taken to see if there would be interest and just how successful sales might be. It was readily accepted by those who heard the plan, so a license was applied for with the county. From there on, it has been busy work for the McMahons and the calendar committee, sending out informative literature to residents, going door to door, and presenting the proposal to the different organizations at Wonder Lake. So far, since the license was granted Sept. 21, over $32,000 has been raised and is placed in the Wonder Lake State Bank. The goal is foi one million dollars over a five-year period. The money obtained from this project will be used solely for the lake itself-dredging, cleaning, and stocking. As residents, this is how we will win, because property values will definitely increase as the value of our lake increases. The calendars will distributed around Dec. 10, just in time to wrap a few up for Christmas presents, but don't forget yourself! If you misplaced your order form, give McMahon a call at 728-0338.
