Pfe I PUPiDEAlEH HERAID,¥ED!<ESPAY, DECEMBER S.1W Opinion/Politics Move to save baseball Public pulse Editor Hie recent destruction of the McHenry Little League ficilMiet at the VFW was ap palling. It was, however, not the first and will most likely not be the last to occur so long as the fields remain at the VFW where they lack community police protection and visibility Organizations such as the McHenry Junior Youth Baseball League cannot and should not have to continually endure the personal and financial strains imposed by having to build and maintain their own facilities. To 0>e best of my knowledge, no other area organizations serving such large numbers of children and requiring large amounts of land are forced to develop and maintain their own fields. It is time the local Little league be provided with the same arrangements as those benefitting the girls Softball _ league and soccer teague. ChriStlHaS bflllgS ChCef Public park facilities should developed, dedicated and maintained specifically for youth baseball. An ideal location for at least two such fields would be on the undeveloped western portion of Petersen Park. Not only would it relieve the league of a major financial and time- consuming burden, but it would be of outstanding benefit to parents who could more easily attend closely scheduled or simultaneous softball and baseball games. As with other organizations, the Youth League should remain operationally independent. The concept is right and the land is available. Let's move now before it is too late and save youth baseball for this and future generations of McHenry boys. James R. Marinangel Editor: We are cheered by the brightness of the Holiday lights as Christmas nears. Hie true light of Christmas twinkles in otherwise darkened homes and brightens children's faces peeping out waiting faithfully for the arrival of St. Nick. Christ's birth is sprinkled into late December when wind and snow, cold and ice tend to make winter unbearable. His birthday makes us joyful and helps us forget ourselves as we give our families and friends gifts and we even forget the long days ahead 'til spring is here again. We celebrate a special infant's birth so pure and simple. He in turn renews our faith, makes us work harder, strengthens our spirits and helps lead us into a brand new year. Let none of us forget the real meaning of Christmas. Rich or poor, young or old, sad or happy, take time out from your busy schedules and thank the Lord for all His blessings.
