DECEMBER 19. 1981 Area Scout leaders i receive merit awards On the occasion of the Kish- waukee District serving McHenry County for the 2,500 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers, three Scout leaders were recognized for outstanding leadership and service to the youth of their communities. Ite leaders are: James R. Connelly, Scout master of Troop 456 Wonder Lake, which is sponsored by the volunteer fire department. Connelly has served the com munity and country in numerous ways. He was a Cub Scout, r, and Eagle Scout with a summer camp coun selor, Cub day camp director, - and Scout leadership ' development instructor in the district. He is presently serving *ras unit commissioner, with added training in advancement, t?Red Cross water safety and t;swim defense. He is also ^member of the outdoor league since 1981, the National Eagle Scout Association, ticket sales ' chairman for the Kishwaukee P District Scout show, and a p recipient of the Scouters Key 8 Training Award. # . 4 a V Connelly is a firefighter, 2 soccer coach and umpire, member of the Federation of Police, a member of the Nativity > Lutheran Church, and chairman of the Police disaster com mittee. He is a watch com mander for the McHenry County Sheriff Police. The leader recently organized Explorer Post 986 in Woodstock, and served in the United States Army in the Far East. Mrs. Bonnie Lehman, A Cub Scout den leader and unit commissioner for Pack 171, 172 of Harvard. She has served many generations of Cub Scout age boys and their families. She is a 23-year veteran, and past president in the United Methodist Church women She is also church school teacher of 25 years, a strong supporter of the parent-teachers association, and high school band. Mrs. Leh man has raised a family of eight children, and for 13 years directed a youth group of young children. She is serving on the Cub Round table staff, now for six years, and holds the Den Leaders Training Key and the Arrowhead Honor. The leader has conducted numerous school night recruiting and charter review meetings and visited the Har vard schools to invite the seven- year-old Tiger Cubs to join. With her leadership, the Cubs built a "Milk Day" float for parades. Jeff Moritz of Crystal Lake . served as Cub master in 1977 as Webelos leader and as assistant Scoutmaster in Oakwood Hills Troop 161. He holds the Leaders Training Award and directed the SLD training course for Scout leaders. Moritz received his Wood Badge Beads, served as support crew leader for the Florida Sea Base, and attended the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for outdoor skills. He serves on the property and maintenance committee of the Blackhawk Area Council and is a member of the Order of the Arrow Lodge. His many projects include the rebuilding of the Arrow building, the Cable Lodge for winter use, and the construction of the new comfort station for handicapped persons attending Camp Lowden. His most recent service was as Cub training instructor for the more than 50 Cub Scout leaders of the district. Over 2,500 boys are member of the Boy Scouts of America in McHenry County, being members of 66 Packs, Troops and Explorer Posts.
