Waukegan East in the tourney's ; first round, and 33-26 trimming by ! Riverside-Brookfield in the con- ; solation round. « McHenry took a 28-20 lead into !the final quarter against 'Waukegan East/but the Bulldogs • McHenry hela an ixinD«on of its "own -- technical fouls on head • coach Pat Wirtz and assistant Jeff 'Varda. ; Peg Chilvers paced the Lady < Warrior attack with 11 points on .two hoops and 7-of-8 free throw ; shooting. Sophomore Rachel ' Pruchinski was brought up for the tournament, and chipped in seven. ; "We had the ball probably 75 'percent of the time," lamented i Wirtz. "We were very, very pa- ; tient. I was proud of the girls that • way." 1 Wirtz said his team's defense ;was excellent as well, holding ' East to just 20 points in the first ! three quarters. "They got seven or eight . buckets on their transition game. ; We just didn't get back, and that • was the ballgame," Wirtz said. "We passed the ball for about a minute each time we touched it," Wirtz explained. "But we didn't get the ball where we needed it. Peg was open sometimes in the middle, and we just didn't see her." McHenry stepped to the free throw line a whopping 36 times, but could convert on just 18, in cluding a dismal 6-for-18 in the fourth quarter. The story was much too similar gainst Riverside-Brookfield. trailed by just two -- 14- 12 "It UWhalt.burk-B ran off n third quarter points to the War riors' six, and cruised to victory. Pruchinski and Chilvers again paved the McHenry way, scoring seven each. "We had nothing from the out side," said Wirtz, "nothing. Nobody was too effective, as you can see by the stats." The Warriors again shot 50 per cent from the charity stripe, cann ing six of their 12 tries. "In both games we got just 10 buckets," said \yirtz. "We're just not aggressive enough inside. We have a lot of work to do on our in side game. "We only turned the ball over about 10 times, and that's good compared to what we were doing. We're moving it well, but our shooting percentage is still down, around 25 percent." SR.
