The program is sponsored by the Greenwood Gremlins 4-H Club and the McHenry County Conservation District. In passing the certification test, youth ages 12 to 16 will be able to ride alone on a snowmobile (without an adult). Youth 10 to 12 years old who j?ass the test are still required to have an adult ride with them. The program on Jan. 13 will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the McHenry County Farm Bureau building in Woodstock. -It will focus on snowmobile safety, laws and the operating and maintenance of all-terrain- vechiles (ATV's). Certification testing will be completed at the second session on Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the farm bureau. A $2.50 registration fee will be collected at the door to cover the cost of materials. Pre-registration is requested. Interested people should call Ken Fiske, executive director of MCCD at 338-1405. Frantz of McHenry, has been appointed a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. The new non-commissioned officer completed training in idersnlp, human relations and NCO management, leaders! responsibilities, before being awarded th status. Frantz is an administrative specialist at Aviano Air Base, Italy, with the 40th Security Police Squadron. He u a 1960 graduate of McHenry West Campus High School. CRAIG ECKERT Airman Craig L. Eckert, son of Robert D. and Gayle M. Eckert of Wonder Lake, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force weather specialist course at Chanute Air Force Base, HI. During the course, students were taught to observe and record weather using mechanical and electronic meteorological equipment. Eckert is scheduled to serve with the 9th Weather Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. He is a 1964 graduate of Woodstock High School. DAVID RICKER Navy Seaman Recruit David L. Ricker, son of Gary L. and Loridale V. Ricker of McHenry, has completed recruit training flt~' Nfevy Recruit Training Command, Navy Training Center, Great Lakes, 111. Ricker's studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. A 1984 graduate of McHenry East Campus High School, he joined the Navy in June 1984. Of interest to those owning, using, or thinking about buying an IBM computer, is the interest group currently forming. The group will discuss problems and successes as well as many other factors of interest to those using that type of computer or one of its compatibles. Subjects will be geared for the inexperienced as well tts novices, intermediates and experts.. The group is a non-profit organization for the purpose of education and fellowship among computer enthusiasts. The next group meeting will be held on Monday, January 14, 7 p.m. at Prairie Grove School located on highway 176, one and a half miles east of highway 31. CONTINUING JAZZ A class in adult jazz exercise is now being sponsored by the City of McHenry, Department of Parks and Recreation. The evening class is held at Parkland Junior High School. The fee is $15 for the 10-week course and is to be paid at the time of registration at City Hall. McHenry County College has been notified that Linda Bigelow, associate dean of instruction for Learning Resources, has been selected by the Institute for Leadership Development to par ticipate in a national ad ministrative project, titled "Leaders for the '80s." The program has been in ex istence for four years and is designed for the professional com munity college woman desiring to improve her administrative com petencies. About 500 women have gone through the program in that time. "Leaders for the '80s" is a pro ject of the Institute for Leadership Development. The institute is funded by The Fund for the Im provement of Pest-Secondary Education and sponsored by The League for Innovation in the Com munity College, The American Association of Women in Com munity and Junior Colleges and Rio Salado Community College, Phoenix. Each year, individuals who show administrative potential are chosen from among applicants na tionwide to take part in the train ing. Criteria for selection as a par ticipant include applicants having at least a master's degree and a minimum of three years of full- time community college ex perience, and submitting a project that would benefit both the college and the applicant. Bigelow will attend a week-long workshop in Phoenix, Ariz., Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, where she will learn more about community college administration, planning and budgeting, financing the com munity college, effective manage ment styles and organizational development, legislative issues and development of resources, and will participate in the establishment of a national in formation network. Her learning experience will also Include what she gains from Involvement in the project she outlined as part of her application. She will chair the MCC Self-Study Committee. MCC's Self-Study Committee will evaluate the col lege's planning processes and will prepare a report to be submitted to North Central Association of Colleges prior to the February, 1966, visit by the North Central Review Committee. Bigelow, of Harvard, has been an associate dean at MCC for four years. She has a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in library science from Northern Il linois University. Before coming to MCC she worked for six years in public libraries and six years in school libraries.
