SECTION 2 -PAGE 2 • PL A IN DEALER-HERALD. FRIDAY, JANUARY 19,19«S ' Neighborhood news Lakemoor/Lilymoor: Support those who are willing to govern here DOUGHNUT UPDATE Harold Nixon now has three additional recipes for potato doughnuts, one written anonymously, one called in by Mrs. Mary McClatchey Rudolph, and copies of another sent by Maria Bremer of McHenry. Her recipe dates from an 1898 cookbook which is also printed in German script, Margaret Karas 385-4934 and is so delightful I would like to share it. (Potato Dough nuts...Roast from 16 to 20 large potatoes, in the ashes, then mash and stem them in a pint of sweet cream and two ounces of butter, upon the fire; now take the whole from the fire, let it cool, stir in the yolks of six or eight eggs, a quarter of a pound of crushed sweet macaroons, some fine sugar, and citron cut into small pieces; of this paste, mould with fine grated bread crumbs, thick dough-nuts, in the shape of sausages, about the length of your finger, turn them in bread crumbs, fry in swim ming hot lard. The German recipe titles the above as "Kartoffelwurschten" which is literally translated as "Potato Sausages". Sounds delicious in English or German. Thank you anonymous, Mrs. Rudolph and Mrs. Bremer for being, "neighbors". Trustee petitions for names to be placed on the April 2 ballot for the Lakemoor board have been given to Ronald Robinette and Daniel Ambrose, making the election of three trustees a contest. Connie O'Rourke, C. Ed Godt and Janice Martin are also interested in the four-year terms. As yet, no petitions for the four-year term of village clerk have been issued, and only one for the four-year term of president, has been given to Padta (Pat) Morrison. , THREE MORE DAYS Voting is the privilege and responsibility available to anyone over 18 who has lived at the same address for 30 days. But registration for this must be done by Monday, Jan. 21, the last day to register until April 3. Residents who need registered voters' signatures on petitions in order to be placed on the ballot, are often discouraged by the number of people who cannot sign because they are not registered. Is not the opinion of every citizen of enough value or worth to be counted? Then why are so many not registered? Registration is available at the McHenry Nunda Library, where librarian Margaret Karas is the official registrar for our area. It takes no more than five minutes, and all that is required is proof of name, age, residence and citizenship. Re-registration is required for change of name or address. The library is open every afternoon after 2, Mon days and Thursdays evenings until 8, and Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. BIRTHDAY TIME Rachael Delp will be four years old on the 18th of January. The youngest child of Vickie and Guy, she has always had the wisdom of the ages in her blue eyes. There are some children who have this special quality. Wanda Minton of Lilymoor wul be reciving happy birthday wishes the same day. Philip Sovsky adds a year on the 19th, as does Linda Pickett. Amy Krawczyk celebrates the following day. Allen Povidas and BUI Koehler have their birthdays on the 21st. Bianne Dember's day is the 24th. A special remembrance for Steve Watkins, whose birth date was Jan. 19. We remember and we care. SNOOPY IS SAFE Snoopy, Hal and Marion Vornkahl's pet dog, has returned home to his warm bed and loving family. On Jan. 10, eight days after he wandered from his home in Lilymoor, Marion received a call from a man saying a strange dog had spent the night in his dog's house on Route 120. The dog had a red collar with the Vornkahl's name and address. DATES TO REMEMBER Jan. 21-Last day to register to vote until April 3. Jan. 21-Last day to file petitions for Village of Lakemoor offices. Jan. 21-Last day to file petitions for McHenry Nunda Public Library Board of Trustees. Jan. 22-Village of JLakemoor meeting, 8 p.m. IRS TIME Forms and publications provided by the Internal Revenue Service are available at the McHenry Nunda Library. State of Illinois forms will also be available soon. One copy of the forms is provided at no cost by the library district, but there is a charge for duplicates. In formation booklets are also available. Ringwood: Help beautify the area We have received word that garbage is sometimes set out at curbside four or five days prior to actual pickup. This is not only unsightly to passersby but it also invites hungry, stray dogs who then make a real mess and a worse eyesore for neighbors as well as passersby. Katy Christopher 385-8037 Doris Low 653-9262 If you have to be out of town on the day of your pickup; perhaps you could arrange for someone to carry it to the curb while you are gone. Also, people who have dogs, restrain them to your own yard-they are not to run free through the community. We are proud of our com munity and we want to make it as attractive as possible, so let's all cooperate. SEWING WORK DAY Now that the holidays are past, ladies of the Ringwood church will be meeting again the fourth Thursday of each month to start projects for their bazaar in the fall* Jan. 24, they will meet at the home of Alice Peet at 10:30 a.m. Co-hostess for the day will be Marge Evans and Katy Christopher. CHOIR PRACTICE Members of the Ringwood church choir will be meeting on Wednesday evenings at seven. Tliey welcome new members and invite you to join them. BIRTHDAYS i Tom Gutekunst will celebrate his birthday Jan. 21. Jan. 22 will be happy cheers for Leslie Mough and Mary Price. Christal Ackerman, Shawn McGowan and Boyd Dowell will add another candle to their cakes Jan. 24. "Happy Birthday" to Colleen Tonyan Jan. 25.
