MOLLY MILLIGAN Your Home Decorator Paiw Milinan Srntinaif Page 13 • 1*1. \l\DKALKK-IIKIl W H»NHS»A\. tKHKIANt 131. I*K» Scouting satisfies variety of interests Dear Molly Mflligan: My two boys (ages 5 and 7) share a bedroom. There just isn't enough closet space for all their paraphernalia. What can be done to create additional storage? Gwen, Belfast, ME Dear'<jwen: Old school lockers are perfect for stashing kids' clothes and toys. Rid them of their institutional look by painting them bright colors. Then personalize each child's locker with his name stenciled on the door. * Dear Molly Milligan: I like the look of soft-pleated shades but find color selection very limited. Before I buy, can you give me a'few suggestions on how to spruce them up? Theresa, Austin, TX Dear Theresa: A pleated shade is so subdued that your window can wear it alone or with a drapery. If you prefer a clean look, just a valance or cornice will be enough. Veroso! pleated shades are now available in a grand array of colorful patterns. You can still have the traditional shade (which lowers from the top) or a duopleated shade (which raises from the bottom) to provide privacy. Dear Molly Milligan: My living room is a big box. It does not have an architectural focal point, nor does it have a splendid view. What can I do to giye^ome inexpensive excitement to these boring walls? J.- ri Matt, Crystal Lake, IL Dearjtfatt: Several things. Accent one wall with brightly colored paint. Or j^ceiit with eye-catching wallpaper. Put up do-it-yourself faux bricks on OM^wall. Mirror a wall or hang a huge photo mural. Any one of these ide^s WiH add a dab of character to your boxy living room. kSi tit ' '* ' Dear Molly Milligan: I am interested in wallpapering our bathroom but the walls are rough plaster. Can you suggest a procedure for smoothing the walls before papering? v Michele, San Marcos, TX Dear Michele: If your walls are lightly textured, a gentle sanding may be all that's needed before you paper. Linen, burlap, grasscloth and relief wallcoverings are especially useful for disguising slight irregularities. For rougher walls, or textured sheetrock walls, gently hand sand, then apply a fiberglass wallcover. Walkover goes on like wallpaper to smooth the wall surface before applying wallpaper. A roll costs about $10.00 for thirty square feet. If you have a question for Your Home Decorator, send it along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Molly Milligan, P.O. Box 14, Dundee, IL 60118. Allow four weeks I for a reply. Girl Scouting seems to be a very worthwhile and popular activity in the McHenry area.
