WKDM-.SOU .KKBKI AK1 13. 1985 Missionary guest speaker at Presbyterian church ) The Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church is planning a "Mission Alive - 85" celebration Sunday morning, Feb. 17. The highlight of the morning will be guest speaker, Marian Farquhar, who has served as a missionary in Ethiopia and the Sudan for many years. She will speak at both the 8:30 and 11 a.m. church services. At 9:30 a.m. she will be available for questions and conversation in fellowship hall. The entire church will be alive with displays, special guests, audio visual presentations, and posters representing the many missions of the church. An international snack table will serve the member's favorite recipfes from around the world. The entire community is welcome. Farquhar comes from Iowa after retiring from 38 years of service in the foreign mission field. She worked in the Upper Nile in the Sudan from 1945-1964. After all missionaries were expelled by the Sudanese government in 1964, she was assigned to the Kowloon True Light Secondary School for girls in Hong Kong. In 1966 she returned to Africa, to Ethiopia. After a year of Amharic language study, she went to Dembi Dollo where she taught English in the Bethel Evangelical Secondary School until 1977. In 1979 she was able to return to the Sudan. After one year in a teacher training institute, she was transferred to the southern government's joint literacy project with SIL (Wycliffe Bible Translators), where she was the Nuer consultant for the last Vh years- LENTEN SERVICES Ash Wednesday, Feb. 20, is the beginning of Lent. All Saints Lutheran Church on State Park Road in Fox Lake will have services every Wednesday at 7 p.m. On Feb. 27, and for the following four weeks, there will be short dramas titled, "We, the Jury." A part of Isaiah 30:15. St. John's begins second session of RENEW Father John C. Holdren, pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic ChuTch, Johnsburg, has announced the Lenten schedule. The parish is entering into its second session of RENEW, entitled, "Our Response To God's Call." It will coincide with the season of Lent for the next six weeks, with small group discussions and large group activities, including the Dobson film series entitled, "Focus On The Family," which will be shown each Sunday afternoon at the church, beginning Feb. 17, through March 24, at 2 p.m. Discussion period and refreshments will follow each film and a free-will offering will be taken. All are welcome to attend. The film schedule is as follows: Feb. 17, "The Strong- Willed Child;" Feb. 24, "Shaping The Will Without Breaking The Spirit;" March 3, "Christian Fathering;" March 10, "Preparing for Adolescence: Peer Pressure and Sexuality;" March 24, "What Wives Wish Their Husbands Knew About Women: The Lonely Housewife" and "What Wives Wish Their Husbands Knew About Women: Money, Sex and Children." Beginning the week of Feb. 17, RENEW small group discussions will begin once a week for six weeks.
