FEBRUARY 15.1993 Life today Selected as finalist in pageant Jennifer Hagberg, daughter of Debra Kitzinger and Michael Hagberg of McHenry, has been selected as a finalist in the 1985 Northern Illinois' Today's little Dream pageant, to be held at the Americana Congress, Chicago, June 7 and 8. This event is an official preliminary to the national pageant to be held in Plant City, Fla. in October. A represen tative from each of the preliminary pageants will be competing for the national title. Contestants must be girls at least four and no more than seven years of age by Dec. 1, 1985. Winner of the northern Illinois pageant will receive a queen's crown, flowers, trophy, $300 cash award, 11" z 14" portrait, banner, and round trip airflight to the national pageant. Other trophies are awarded to the first four runners-up, Miss Hospitality, Ifiss Photogenic, Best Personality, Most Poised and Best Party Dress. ' McHenry Area Toastmasters are planning a speaking contest "Five Minutes For Life" to benefit the Leukemia Society of America, Inc., Illinois Chapter, to be held during the month of February, in conjunction with Toastmasters International speech contests. Local toast- master members will recruit sponsors to pledge a certain amount of money for every point they receive during a five- minute speech. Toastmasters is a non-for- profit group devoted to developing skills in listening, thinking, speaking and leadership by participating in a series of oral. communication pro jec ts , cons t ruc t ive evaluation, and leadership experiences. All proceeds from the contest will go towards the Leukemia Society of America's telecast which will benefit the $220,000 local research program. In other words, people can call the center they attend and reserve'a meal 24 hours ahead of the day they plan to attend. Outstanding women educators holfl meeting Alpha Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society of outstanding women educators, met Monday evening, Feb. 4. at Northwood Elementary School in Wood stock. The business meeting was called to order by Kathy Hughes, president. Sue An derson, Membership chairman, reported that the Al^a Theta chapter has a current mem bership of 108. A contribution was sent to Camp Superkids for asth matic children. Partners are to bring stuffed toys, games, puzzles, books and art supplies to the March meeting, to be given to children in hospitals who are afflicted with cystic fibrosis, lung and other respiratory diseases.
