I spent the entire week at Nor thern Illinois Medical Center Man. oh man. have they kept me busy with tests and more tests! One of the worst is having to swallow two glasses of awful tasting liquid in the morning, then three more in the af ternoon. I can get much better drinks at places I usually frequent. My room was on the seventh floor where you look out on a beautiful countryside So I Hear by Earl Walsh This location reminds me of days when I walked through the fields with Grandma to see Aunt Ellen Frisby. I hardly got through the door when Aunt Ellen told her daughter Nancy to give me a cookie. What a cookie! It was as big as a small sized pie, white and covered with sugar with a big raisin in the center. Never see a raisin that big these days. When the season was right, Grandma picked asparagus along the fence line. My first nurse was Sophie, a very nice girl from the Philip pines. She's a good one. Must say that everybody is nice and considerate in the hospital. Of course, the world knows I love nurses. I have been in hospitals where you turned on the light for a nurse and waited and waited. Not here, they pop right in to help you. This hospital is big and so well equipped you couldn't believe. Looks to me we are big time in a small city. With the number of people on the payroll, the hospital must be a big boost to the economy of McHenry. Father Fish came a-callin' and promised to come back. He is both interesting and a good listener. Over a period of time, I have probably told him the same old stories, but he doesn't let on. A man of his word, he came back daily. With snow and blow on the outside, they tried to tell me how lucky I was to be inside looking out. Lucky me! Had no idea there is so much traffic on Bull Valley Road. Construction of that road was a good move. When I looked at her smile, I should have known that Jaceen Bowles is Jack Phalin's daughter. She was a big help to me one day when I needed help. They have cable TV in the rooms. I got the Loyola-DePaul game and decided Loyola belongs in the top 20. Those dunk shots please the crowd, but to me it is like shooting fish in a barrel. Loyola had a couple of sharpshooters who could hit the nets from the outside. My spiritual needs were well taken care of as Father Gaynor, Deacon Jerry Tobin of St. John's, Sister Eleanor, Minister to the shut-ins, and a couple more whose names slipped away from my memory. One morning I saw a train heading south. That's an event in McHenry. From the amount of blood one technician took out of me, I think she must be start a blood bank. Nurses and many other hospital employees come from a wide area. All are busy and efficient. One smiling nurse comes from Taiwan. One thing I must say about our hospital, they don't wake you up at 5 o'clock in the morning to wash your face. As I looked out at the number of cars parked, it appeared the day will come when the parking lots will have to be enlarged. Mrs. Dean (Frannie) Glosson came up from another floor to 0OTGS EVERYTHING WINTER MUST GO! j^UP TO ^70% OFF! WINTER ^APPAREU \ * "CHILDREN'S GENTLY USED APPAREL" 1304 N. GREEN ST., McHENRY, ILL *(815)385-8555 cheer me with news that she is a reader of this column. Also told me her maiden name was Sullivan. That I liked. Another pleasant girl from a floor below came up to see me, saying she lived here 13 years and has been a column reader all that time. I must have been dopey not to have written down her name. Karen Kent, Rosalie Doherty, Helen Miller and Evie Murphy, looking snappy in their uniforms also came a-callin'. They help in many ways and make patients feel better. Guess that covers my hospital stay. From all the restrictions on my diet and activities, you are going to see a model young man. While I was away, Alvina got a call from Alice Olsen of Wonder Lake to say she saw two robbins while shoveling snow. Can spring be far away? A couple of my good friends (senior citizens) had birthdays while I was away and couldn't send them greetings. Jorse than birthdays, fentine's Day came when I Idn't get out to treat my best girl. That means we will have to set a special day when I get out on the town. So far I have to stay in the cabin. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information about a burglary to a garage in Fox River Grove. On Jan. 24, the owner of a garage located at 300 Opatrny Dr. discovered the break-in. The offender apparently forced the lock on the door to gain entry. The burglar took a pair of Billy Kidd Brand Downhill Skis with Saloman bindings. The skis rime PIRS 459-4800 are white with multicolored stripes; the bindings are black. Total value is estimated at $200. Burglaries are tough crimes for the police to solve, but someone in the community usually has the information needed to clear the case. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for in formation leading to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against offenders. If you have any information about this burglary to a garage in Fox River Grove, or information about any other crimes, call Crime Stoppers at (815) 459-4800. All callers remain an- nonymous--one never needs to give a name. Crime Stoppers, which is sponsored by the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, assigns secret numbers to annonymous callers who provide in formation. Callers are in structed to call back at regular intervals to find out if any suspects have been arrested as a result of confidential in formation given.. If there are arrests, the Crime Stoppers board of directors then meets to determine an ap propriate reward. A second meeting is arranged to make the cash reward payments. Anonymous callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to appear in court.
