SECTION 2 - PAGE 2 • PLAIN DEALER -HER ALP, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22,19»S Church Unity welcomes two new members Tell all that church has to offer at reception On Sunday, Feb. 17, Unity Church of Crystal. Lake was blessed with the addition of two new members, Phyllis and Darryl Bell. "The only requirement for membership in Unity is a desire to know and love God through the guidance of our elder brother and way shower, Jesus Christ,^ states the Rev. Brian Combs. "We realize your innate divinity as you join our spiritual family. Each of us is a part of Divine Order, beautiful and perfect, yet in and of ourselves incomplete. Together our fragmentation diminishes fulfilling an innate yearning for true brotherhood. Your unity with us brings us one step closer to our realization of total oneness." "Each petal of a rose is beautiful, perfect and fragrant," Combs continues. "Yet, one petal does not com plete the flower. The value of each petal is intrinsic in the formation of the perfect rose. We appreciate your contribution to the perfection of our rose." Unity Church of Crystal Lake is an interdenominational Christian church where people of diverse belief systems merge to study, pray, meditate and grow in the realization of Christ. Sunday morning activities include Adult Bible Study at 9:30; Prayer Panel, 10:15; Prelude, 10:50; Worship Ser vice, 11; Nursery School, ages three-five, 11; Sunday School, ages five-ten, 11; Uniteens, ages 11-13,11:15; and Y.O.U., ages 14- 18, 11:15. Celebrate world prayer day World Day o f Prayer is celebrated Friday, Mar. 1, in churches across the United States and in 170 countries and regions of the world. This 1965 service takes as its theme, "Peace Through Prayer and Action." Written by Christian women of India, it calls people the world over to gather for the ninety- eighth consecutive year to circle the globe in prayer for peace and to actively become peacemakers. The service seeks to motivate a commitment on the part of participants to become personally involved in the peacemaking process. World Day of Prayer is sponsored in the United States by Church Women United, an ecumenical movement that brings Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox women together into one Christian "community of caring." World Day of Prayer offerings make possible the mission of Church Women United, in cluding the Intercontinental Grants for Mission program that funds national and international projects in support of the em powerment of women, human rights, justice and peace. The service will be held at Nativity Lutheran Church in Wonder Lake. A fellowship coffee will begin at 9:15 a.m. and the program will follow at 10. Speaker at Faith The Rev. David Shields, executive Presbyter of Blackhawk Presbytery, will be preaching at Faith Presbyterian Church, located at the in tersection of Lincoln and Chapel Hill roads, at both services Sunday, Feb. 24. His message will concern the new dimensions in mission and ministry being undertaken by the Presbyterian church. The reverend is a noted workshop leader and in seminary, received the Distinguished Preaching award while a senior at McCormick Seminary in Chicago. Married, and father of two children, he served many years as an executive in the Synod of Lincoln Trails, which en compasses Illinois and Indiana. For the past four years, he has been the executive officer leading 92 Presbyterian chur ches in northern Illinois. Visitors are always welcome to attend this youthful and growing church. Services are at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. An information Sunday and new member reception were held for 42 new members at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green St., McHenry, Sunday, Feb. 17. The Evangelism committee headed by Carolyn Haiman and Mary Lou Nichols, and the Steward ship committee led by Bob Mellum and Jeff Perley, teamed up to create a one-hour presentation for new members. Audio-visual presentations on the life of the church, as well as verbal presentations on the children and youth programs and the variety of programs for adults were made. The many facets of the education program of the church, as well as the traditional and contemporary worship services were ex plained. The various fellowship and music groups were also highlighted. All of the new members were assigned a sponsor who attended worship with them and ac companied them to the altar at one point in the worship service to receive a certificate of church membership from Pastor Schneider. In today's fast- moving world, faith in moral principles, in the future of the country, in the goodness of fellow citizens, and in oneself, is a vital asset. For peace of mind, happiness and an understanding of fife and what can be ac complished, faith is a key. Those who have little, should think jbout it. DIRECTORY * • JACK WALSH. AGENT EARL R.WALSH.
