Permit me to reply. There are many rabbis and many priests who will officiate. We have had many mixed marriages in our synagogue in the past several years, including many in which clergy of other faiths have participated in the wedding ceremony. DEAR ABBY: Thank you for recommending the Unitarian Church to the Catholic man and Jewish woman who wanted to marry but couldn't find a priest or rabbi who perfrom the ceremony. My Catholic daughter was engaged to a Jewish man, and they too, were having trouble finding a clergyman of either faith to marry them. They were ready to settle for a justice of the peace when in your column I read about a couple who were having the same problem. You said, "Try the Unitarian Church." I called my daughter right away and told her what I had read, and she got right on it. She found a Unitarian Church listed in the phone book, called the church and made an appointment with the minister. Then she and her fiance went to see mm. First, he gave them both a course in premarital counseling, and then-he married them in a beautiful ceremony that included both the Christian and Jewish rituals. I hope the couple who wrote to vou takes your advice and finds a Unitarian minister as wonderful as the Rev. Robert Jones in Cherry Hill, N.J. Those in the New York area should investigate the Chapel of the United Nations. It's a beautiful setting. Elsewhere, inquire at the nearest college or university. A rabbi religions are combined, YOU don't have to be a young college to be married in a chapel on a college campus. Anyone of legal age - and up - can get married there. The nonagenarian was born in McHenry Mar. 1, 1895, and had farmed in the Volo area until 1953, when she moved to Volo. She is a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and has been active in many of the church functions. John St., McHenry, and Jerry Laridn, 474 W. Judd St., Woodstock. The nuptials took place in the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption, McHenry. The bride is the daughter of Jack and Maureen Hodge, 386 Anne Terrace, Wheeling, 111. Gerald and Joan Larkin, 4412 W. Ponca St., McHenry, are the parents of the bridegroom. The maid of honor was Amanda Hodge of Wheeling, and the matron of honor was Cindy Borre of Buffalo Grove, 111., both sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were the bride's friend, Diane Sawyer of Arlington Heights, 111. and the groom's sister, Sally Larkin of McHenry. The duties of best man were handled by the groom's brother- in-law, John Smith of McHenry. A reception was held at the Hob Nob II Restaurant in Crystal Lake. The newlyweds honeymooned in downtown Chicago for four days over the New Year holiday, and are planning a wedding trip to Hawaii in March. They are presently residing at 474 W. Judd St., Woodstock. The new Mrs. Larkin graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1976 with a B.S. in Elementary Education-Special Education; and is a special education teacher at Hilltop School in McHenry. Her husband received a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1978 and an M.B.A. in 1980, from Bradley University. He is a project cost analyst at Commonwealth Edison's Byron Nuclear Station.
