In fact. David Jonas, stunt coordinator for "Airwolf and "Magnum, P.I," was recently honored as best aerial coordinator of the year He was given the award at a stunt men's dinner in Los Angeles hosted by La* Majors. It was Jones who pulled the unconscious pilot to safety after the chopper plunged from the skies during "Airwolf" filming on Jan. 18. "Shir ley MacLaine," airing March 5 on Showtime, is a tad disappointing. The first half of the show is slower and less dynamic than Miss MacLaine usu ally delivers. There is too much singing^ and not enough dancing. But the pace picks up later as Miss MacLaine and her dancers kick up their heels in a number that salutes the diverse styles of different choreogra phers she has worked with. She also shines in excerpts of some of her dramatic roles. Segments from "The Turning Point" and "Terms of Endearment" bring depth and substance to this performer "Splash," airing on cable in March, is every thing a successful, light- hearted film should be. This entertaining movie has personable charac ters and a funny plot. It airs on HBO March 5 and 10. Showtime March 3 and 8. Cinemax March 8 and The Movie Channel March 9 Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks star in a -story about a beautiful mermaid who comps to New York Shirley MacLaine fell for each other 20 years earlier when he accidentally went over board and saw her in her natural environment. How the mermaid keeps her secret and learns to adapt to the city is a great tale. It helps that her tail turns into legs when she is on dry land. Hanks is excellent in light .comedy and is one of the reasons the movie is so good. Miss Hannah proves herself to be more than a niere beauty -- she's a great 'comic actress. John Candy also stars. On March 3. ESPN pre sents the finals of the Chrysler Women's Team Championship in La •Costa, Calif., with the top eight female tennis play ers competing. On March 8. On the opposite side of the spectrum was "Rever end" Jim Ignatowski (Christopher Lloyd, r.), a wacky and wired former hippie. In between these two extremes were such oddballs as Latka Cravas (Andy Kaufman), the mechanic who spoke a bizarre language that was a cross between Serbian and Venutian; Louie DeFalma (Danny DeVHo), the frazzled, pint-sized dispatcher; Tony Banta (Tony Danza), a two-bit boxer/ and Baine Nar- do (Marilu Henner), an art-gallery receptionist. The series ran on ABC from 197$ to 19B2. After its cancellation outraged many viewers, NBC look on the series, but the new episodes failed to create interest and "Taxi" ran out of gas for good.
