Martinez, a third-genera­ tion Mexican-American, was born in Glendale, Calif. He studied drama at the University of California in Los Angeles before drop­ ping out to pursue his career. " His Latin heritage actual­ ly helped him land the lead role in PBS's production of "Seguin," which told the story of an unknown Mexi­ can hero during Texas's battle tor independence.
