The volunteer firemen showed the film "Sparky and provided additional fire information and pam- phlete, and then answered auestions. The first through third grade girls were very attentive throughout the program and they and attending irents were appreciative of and Gary's presentation. Margaret Karas 385-4934 Brownie leaders Dottie Mentzer, Barbara Cook and Louise Simon had planned for the program and provided refreshments served afterward. They too appreciated the foremen's coming to Hilltop, instead of having to transport 27 (a gaggle of giggling girls?) Brownies to the fire station on Route 120 and Lily Lake Road. DOG DANGER ; Saturday, Feb. 9, Jeannette NJessman and her husband were (giving north on Lily Lake Road when a young black and silver shepherd darted from behind a snow bank. Unable to stop the car, the dog was hit and killed, causing deep pain and sadness. The dog was removed by a deputy sheriff who witnessed the' accident from the fire station. An almost repeat situation developed Monday, Feb. 25, when the Messmans were again driving down Lily Lake Road, and two poodles darted across the street. Fortunately, these were not hit, but the fear of another accident is constantly with the Messmans. To insure the safety of pets, dog owners are asked to keep them fenced or restrained. Knowing from personal loss, the pain that is felt when a dog is Killed, please protect your dogs from being hit by vehicles. The only way to do this is to keep them off the roads. GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY The Friends of the MN Library hosted an informational tea at the library on Route 120 and Lily Lake Road Saturday, Feb. 23. Hostesses Lorry Deeke, Vickie Delp, Louise Hipwell, Jackie Grom and Mary Stangl chatted with visitors and ex plained what MN Friends do. The Summer Reading program, Christmas party and Short Story Writing contest, were some of last year's activities. Plans for National Library Week, in cluding a vegetable gardening presentation and a children's puppet show are being for mulated, plus the book sale to be held in the spring. Nine new members joined the MN Friends. You are always welcome, too. The next meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4, at the McHenry Nunda Library. Call 385-6303 for information. Why not become involved with programs that will give the youngsters a constructive outlet for their energies? Junior Girl Scout leaders and Brownie leaders are needed, as there will not be a Junior Scout troop this fall unless adults volunteer to devote several hours one evening a week to oversee the scouting programs. All that is required is the desire to help, and then the commitment to follow through. A training session is provided, and every troop has two leaders. Troop organizer Dottie Mentzer finds scouting a very rewarding experience. In her three years of leadership, watching the girls grow and develop, and knowing mat scouting gives them a direction with things to do, friendships and caring for others, has more than paid for the time and effort given. Call 385-0486 and be a do-er, not a nay-sayer. CELEBRATIONS Memories of 51 years of being married to each other, will crowd in on Helen (Chris) and Bob Donovan, March 1. Their first days as Mr. and Mrs. were spent in a "dance marathon;" that form of public endurance and torture popular during depression time, when the chance of winning money as a prize kept the contestants moving for days. Who would have imagined that 51 years later, Chris and Bob would be living in retirement in Lakemoor? Wishes , for more years, good health and con tentment go to them. Jackie (Marlene) and Carl Stromley will be celebrating the anniversary of their wedding vows the 2nd of March. Though they are now grandparents of three boys, looking at their wedding pictures with Jackie's dark beauty and Carl's mischievious grin, makes the years disappear. BROKEN RIBS Having three broken ribs is no laughing matter, as Rick Marshall of Lakemoor can at test to. However, if one is skating, and one's skate catches on a rough spot, and one falls over one's arm extended for protection but which projects into one's rib cage ana causes the break, quite a mental image comes to mind. Since the accident in late January, Rick has fallen off a ladder while removing ice from the roof, missed a backward step as he was clearing snow off the sidewalk, and several other painful reminders of healing ribs. Sympathy and en couragement are given to him by wife Judy, children Shawna and Troy. CHRISTMAS IN FEB. Christmas Day is the usual time for Krista and Ken Rogman to exchange gifts and share with her family. Christ mas Day, however, found Krista working in ICU at NIMC. New Years Day was planned on, but then there was the Snow; remember? The npxt Sunday was very cold, and so on lihtil the 17th of Feb. when Krista and Ken, with little Erin, finally had their family Christmas. Krista received two wooden prince and princess dolls made in India, from her brother, who spends about six months every year in that country. The dolls are on display at the McHenry Nunda Library, with a hand embroidered wall hanging using little circles of mirrors, san dalwood elephants, a Kami si Indian outfit that Krista had tailor made. !T1 Obituaries Maria Hyatt- Maria Hyatt, 89, of Lakemoor, McHenry, died Wednesday, Feb. 27,1985, in Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry.
