V SECTION 2 • PAGE 2- PLAIN DEALER'HERALD, FRIDAY, MARCH 8.1985 School Johnsburg schools to hold kindergarten registration • Johnsburg School District 12 )vill be holding a registration and census for all children born between Dec. 1,1979 and March 13, 1982, and who have not yet Entered kindergarten. ' It will take place at James C. Bush Elementary School on March 13-14, according to the following schedule: ; Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, 1 fc.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. « If you are unable to come at any of these times, please call 385-3731 (Bush School) to make other arrangements for registration. This registration and census applies to all pre-School children ages three through five, even if the child has been registered in previous years. School officials are hopeful that all parents of children 3, 4, and 5 years of age will register during these days. Birth certificates are necessary for the registration of children for this fall's kin­ dergarten. * - .Conferences at MCHS Second semester parent- teacher conferences for students at McHenry High Schools will be held Thursday, March 14, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday, March 15, from noon to 3 p.m. Conferences will be scheduled for approximately 15 minutes in lengtn. Students will have classes all day on Thursday, however, there will be no classes on Friday. The * * schools encourage parents to schedule conferences, regardless of grade reports. Parents are asked to call for an appointment between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3p.m. and ask for the guidance office. BPW offers scholarship The Foundation committee of the McHenry Business and Professional Women has an­ nounced that applications are now available for its 1985 scholarship for women. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a woman 30 years old or older, who is planning to pursue a new career, prepare for employment, or advance herself in her present field of employment. Application forms may be obtained at the McHenry Public Library or from the Foundation chairman, Lynne Donarski, 3111 W. Crescent, McHenry, 385-6269. The deadline is May 1,1985; and the winner will be notified by June 1, 1985. Area students win contest Chicago were sne read her essay, "The Statue of Liberty. Lady with a Lamp." In Wonder Lake, Mick Nelson, an eighth grader at Harrison School ana member of the "Black Jacks" Junior American Citizens (JAC) club, placed first in the state with his essay, "My Family's Story - Geneology.r' A seventh grader at John­ sburg Junior High School took first place in a district essay contest sponsored by the DAR. Melissa Vayo placed first in the district competition and her essay will be sent on for com­ petition at the state level. She received an award at the DAR Dist. IV meeting Feb. 8 in Classical concert this Sunday The works of Handel, Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin are among the features being performed by the applied music students at McHenry County College at a recital on March 10. The program begins at 3 p.m. and both vocal and instrumental included. McHenry High School students win OEA awards Members of the McHenry High School Office Education Association scored well recently in regional skill tests held at the College of Lake County, Grayslake. McHenry students placed first in (our different categories and also earned second place in five categories. » Winners in the regional competition will move on to the state contest, held in Springfield March 7-9. .
